Not really. Leverkusen played much better in their games against Potsdam and Frankfurt than in the Hoffenheim game but remember that they were nearly relegated last year. A fourth or fifth place would be a big success for Bayer. Also a look at the remaining games shows that it is not realistic to hope for third place. Hoffenheim(34 points, 16 games): Essen, Bayern, Meppen, Sand, Freiburg, Duisburg Potsdam(29 points, 16 games): Freiburg, Duisburg, Bayern, Frankfurt, Bremen, Essen Leverkusen(29 points, 17 games): Bremen, Essen, Meppen, Bayern, Sand If Leverkusen win all games except against Bayern they would have 41 points and Hoffenheim with the much better goal difference would only need 7 points which should be no problem for them because they play against the three weakest teams (Sand, Meppen, Duisburg) . Potsdam have a slightly better chance because they have a game more to play than Leverkusen but even if they win all their games against the middle class teams (Freiburg, Frankfurt, Essen) they would need two upsets.
I don’t pay much attention to Leverkusen since it lacks German star power. Turbine Potsdam has done well to be in 4th place, but they had injuries to several promising young players; Schwann, Gasper, Nielsen, Uebach, Fisher & the vet, Bianca Schmidt. So maybe a better chance to make the CL next season?(especially since Hoffenheim will loose its two best players to Wolfsburg) Potsdam been known as an top ‘school of soccer’ club as even established stars in the past have seek them out(rather then the other way around) but they haven’t kept up with decent paying salaries, thus lost a lot of big names over the years. Former star, Tabea Kemme, is aiming to become the club’s new president, but don’t know if that means necessarily more badly needed money will flow into the club or not.
Full Leverkusen/Frankfurt game. Figure I'll post this for our Tanaka & Nadeshiko fan club, support is after all important more than ever; Nadeshiko had lost their last 3 games in an row
Well, we talking about SheBelievesCup 2020, more than one year ago! I look forward to a potential Japan-Germany clash at the Olympic Games.
Oh yes, I always forget! I swear it wasn't intentional mockery (although it could have been, if directed to @hotjam2): it's just that I can't seem to wrap my head around the notion of an Olympic women's football tournament without Germany (who, incidentally, are the reigning champions: it's quite unusual to see a tournament where the defending champions are missing).
all games seem to be geo blocked today, even the ones on youtube.Wolfsburg plays SC Sand today, their starting an whole 8 new players from their game vs Chelsea. It be interesting if they can run up the score in this game, cuz, if they can, than why not bwnd the rules a little & play them as an seperate 2nd team on Bundi division 1 soccer(instead of sitting on the bench like on most Sundays)
Good news for Potsdam: The first upset happened. The bad news is that they couldn`t profit from it. Leverkusen-Frankfurt 3:2(1:2) Tanaka(7,69), Kleinherne(76og) - Freigang(12), Pawollek(25) Duisburg-Bayern 0:6(0:2) Magull(18p), Dallmann(28), Asseyi(56p), Schüller(61), Ilestedt(86), Laudehr(87) Sand-Wolfsburg 1:3(0:2) Loos(50) - Blomqvist(26), Saevik(28), Wolter(65) Freiburg-Potsdam 1:0(0:0) Kayikci(79) Hoffenheim-Essen 0:1(0:0) Elmazi(90+3) Meppen-Bremen 3:2(2:0) Emmerling(11), Becker(44), Endemann(73) - Ulbrich(80), Walkling(86) Die @FCBfrauen setzen ihre beeindruckende Siegesserie auch gegen Duisburg fort. still a few hours away, but Wolfsburg geo blocked it's youtube showing & Chelsea hasn't so far come up with an link, so here might be the only one showing the game Wnited
Chelsea's youtube channel finally came through, but don't kow who to root for; no Oberdorf even rostered, so you got WOB's 5 German players vs Chelsea's 2, but those two are probably better than WOB's, So watch Leupolz & Berger excell or cheer Popp whine & whine & whine?
Useless watching this game anymore; just like last one, the ref is in the deep pockets of Chelsea. Kerr takes an dive & gets an scored PK Kerr scores 2 minutes later Chelsea 2-0
It was a stupid foul by Doorsoun. She pushed Kerr in the back and the push continued until Kerr had reached the penalty box. Bundesliga Frankfurt-Duisburg 3:0(3:0) Feiersinger(20), Nüsken(34,44) The Leipzig goal was scored by Anja Mittag who made a comeback because of injury problems for RB.
Oh, wow: feels very strange when it happens that a top-player comes back after her official retirement.
so now Lerch is up for the Arsenal coaching job.....feel sorry for the Gunners! So just yesterday the German men’s squad lost to North Macedonia. Dunno if this is a record for loosing to the lowest ranked team ever, but do you think this might make Germans finally more interested in their women’s squad? I know it works for the USA!
Wales was ranked much lower (No.97) when Germany lost a friendly 2002 in Cardiff 0:1 than North Macedonia (No.65). Have you read the news I have posted in the Euro 2021 thread?
What news?(sorry, I’ve been banned from women’s international & don’t follow the men’s game that much) Bad defending/bad clearances hurt Wolfsburg, & that came from what usually makes 3 of the 4 starting back line of the German NT, not being able to handle world class players like Kerr & Miedema(vs Holland) will be the doom of them come major tournament time
The German Football Federation DFB has decided to fire men`s coach Jogi Löw only a few hours after the disastrous 1:2 home defeat in a World Cup qualifying match against North Macedonia which makes qualification for the World Cup 2022 in Qatar doubtful. DFB president Fritz Keller said: After yesterday`s match it was inevitable for us to react. I couldn`t find any sleep until we had solved this problem and I had a long discussion with national team director Oliver Bierhoff. We agreed that the only chance to have a successful Euro for our team would be a new coach and that this coach had to be available immediately. After a consultation with Horst Hrubesch we have decided to offer the job our women`s national team coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg and after a short time to think it over she has accepted our offer. In case of a successful Euro we are interested in a long-term cooperation. Silvia Neid will coach the women`s team in the friendlies against Australia and Norway." Keller refused to comment speculations that Wolfsburg coach Stephan Lerch whose contract with the German Champions ends in June is a candidate to coach the women`s team at the Euro 2022 in England. More details will be announced in a press conference later today.
