espn shows pretty much all the college championships... they are incredible at doing it... i don't mind getting bumped for it because they bump stuff for the college soccer championships as well try blowing smoke elsewhere
This is from two years ago: http://www.momentummedia.com/articles/cm/cm0907/bbespn.htm Ratings around a .7, .8 and stuff. NCAA championships almost always get decent ratings (soccer gets between a .5 and .8 I think) because you have people from the schools who are interested regardless of the sport. They are contractually obligated to show certain things live. WOmen's softball is one of them. And today is the NHRA's big Summer nationals, which ran from 5-7 on ESPN. Their ratings dwarf MLS. Pretty simple business decision.
exactly, and that's all it is. i wonder if jri has anything else to say now that he's been called out on this thread.
Someone makes this post every year at this time. ESPN has a contract with the NCAA to show the various championship games LIVE. So other programming gets bumped. How hard is that to understand? Sachin
so does this mean they arent showing the game at all? i am so tired of this crap....espn is the devil. I sometimes think they sign the contract with the mls just so they can screw it over and keep any other network from promoting it.
And the MLS contract includes a clause that the game in question will get bumped. Hell, this isn't a surprise. It's been on the schedule since it was announced in February or March. Sachin
OK. So explain why it's not on now - when the schedule says it's supposed to be on. Is this in the contract too? Sorry. I'm pissed.
espn will keep doing this as long as the soccer fans keep letting them push us around.......this is a bunch of crap.......and i dont care what mr. know it all sachofcrap says.......if they say they are going to show something then they need to show it.....this happens almost every week. it is weird that it never happens to any other sports on a regular basis.
They have a contract with MLS where MLS pays them money. They have a contract with the NCAA where they pay the NCAA money. In the TV world, that wins. And this doesn't happen "every week." SPorts get bumped all the time. That said, the fact that it is not on now is pathetic.
If the contract also allows them to be bumped for NBA highlite shows, MLS needs to get some new lawyers.....
That's because I don't want to watch it. So therefore, they're not showing it. Seriously, I don't have an answer for that, but IIRC, that happened last year too. Sachin
Don't blame the lawyers. Blame the sad fact that NBAnything will get higher ratings than MLS. Bill Walton scratching his ass for half an hour will get higher ratings than MLS.
Since I don't have a game to watch I just sent another letter to ESPN. Too bad I never have anything postitive to say to them! However, I think my letter is futile.
i doubt anyone reads them.........if mls goes with espn again i will prob. never be a mls fan again because they are cooking their own goose by signing with espn.
