Hey, going to Sofia next week and would like to see either CSKA or Levski. The national stadium is being renovated, where is Levski playing? Who is home next weekend (May 25-26)? Thanks. Lane

Levski are home on May 24 at 5pm vs Dobrudzha. They play at the Georgi Asparuhov stadium, not the confusingly named Levski stadium. Be prepared for a completely empty stadium. I saw Levski-Chernomorets in November and attendance was 1500 (stadium capacity is around 25,000). Dobrudzha are even weaker than Chernomorets, the championship is over, etc. On the other hand, Levski need to win to stay in 2nd place (and maintain a UEFA Cup spot) so they will be going hard for a win. If you are going to be in Sofia on the 21st you could go see the Bulgarian Cup final. It is wednesday, May 21st, 7pm at the Levski stadium. Levski vs Litex. That will probably be a good game with a large crowd and good atmosphere. Let me know if I can be of any further help. Have fun in BG.

Bulgarian league Hey- for you folks that have been to a CSKA or Levski game recently, what is your take on the fans? The atomsphere? Is it "safe?" My girlfriend, who happens to be Bulgarian, is not a big fan of going to the matches due to violence and idiot football fans. I have seen matches in some pretty hairy places but from what she told me, I think I may just watch it on TV.... I recently went to a CSKA basketball game and a friend of mine that plays for them told me that when he first got there he was greeted with racial slurs by the CSKA faithful, of course these were the football supporters, not the b-ball supporters. Any thoughts?
Re: Bulgarian league I think you'll be fine as long as you follow basic rules - don't sit in the supporters sections of either club, don't wear the colors of either club and stay aware of what's going on around you. The match I saw there was no violence at all but I can't say that's true for every match. You might want to post something on the forum of www.bulgarian-football.com. There are many Bulgarians there and they can give you a lot more specific info than me. Good luck.
