Asked Tata Martino about dual nationals and whether he'd call players in for Nations League play to cap-tie them. Said that he's spoken to Efrain Alvarez earlier in year and believes he is committed to Mexico so it isn't an issue ... #eltrieng— Tom Marshall (@mexicoworldcup) October 1, 2019 ... Added that part of his job is to follow the likes of Ledzema, Mendez and Llanez and that if he feels they are deserving he would try to call them up. #eltrieng— Tom Marshall (@mexicoworldcup) October 1, 2019

Tata couldn't completely gut the olympic team though. The Argie friendlies are going to be a much bigger test for the U23s than Bermuda and probably Panama. Wonder what's up with him, last time he got called up was last year with Tuca. I admittedly haven't followed Pachuca as much as in the past but a midfielder with his goalscoring stats shouldn't be ignored.
Mexico call up 17 players 23 or younger, 15 of which have at least 20 Liga MX apps.Whilst calling up a 26-man u-22 squad including only 1 player without a Liga MX appearance. Many fears about the 9/9 rule have been proven wrong. Deepest young talent pool I've seen.#eltrieng— Tom Harrison (@tomh_36) October 4, 2019 I have some doubts over the long term impacts of the regla de menores, but that's working well so far and I may well be proven wrong there.Still need to improve pathways, and increase the quantity of quality academies lower down the levels, but there's plenty of promise.— Tom Harrison (@tomh_36) October 4, 2019
This is one of my earliest memories of the Mexican NT. I was 8 years old when I was watching this. I remember my dad and all my uncles going crazy. What was the significance of this tie?
The tie got us through iirc. I think South Korea did us a solid in that WC too by beating or tying Bulgaria.
That's right...Bulgaria sonned us 4 years prior when Stoichkov fired that missile through Campos and knocked us out.

I'm not sure if you're looking for an answer but at that time the last match day Mexico was on the verge of being eliminated as they were losing and Belgium was beating Korea. Then Korea tied it up, in the event Belgium won it would have gone to goal differential
I was looking for an answer and thank you for providing one! It's one of my favorite memories and I am glad that I finally know what that goal meant.
Not the full quote tho... He basically said it is a good experience especially for younger players to help them stay humble... Not sure if he felt like he needed to add that to sugar coat it and seem like less of an ass for being honest...
Yeah he probably didn't want to come off like an asshole, but it's still good to hear him echo the sentiment of the rest of us. Plus he's been pushing hard for quality games for friendlies so I have to give him lots of props for trying to push things in a different direction.
