Let's see who wins this. Will be pretty clear cut, I guess. We'll remove all vote from not Utd supporters and the phantom fanboy votes. It would be great if you'd list a 1,2,3 in the thread as well as voting actually.
1. Ronaldo 2. Scholes 3. Carrick * I struggled with #3. I was thinking Rooney since he had around 20 goals, no small amount...but Carrick is probably the 2nd most irreplacable player on the squad. If the most.
1. Ronaldo 2. Scholes 3. Evra Don't think I need to justify the first 2. I picked Patty in the 3rd spot because, in his first season at United, he excelled at his position, even displacing our beloved Argentina from the spot. He was constant even as the defense collapsed around him through injury after injury. There are def a few players who qualify for that 3rd spot (Giggs, Carrick, Rio), but I want to give Evra a little recognition for his excellence this season.
1. Duh. 2. Giggsy 3. Scholes Giggs is my #2 because even at 33, he's still one of the youngest looking players out there. He can hold his own, and can easily help us win a few more trophies.
1. Ronaldo 2. Scholes 3. VDS the 3rd spot was a bit tricky for me to pick but i think he came up with some huge stops that were the difference in a lot of games.
1. Ronaldo - obvious 2. Rio - huge difference when he is not in our lineup 3. Giggs - great contribution all around - especially his leadership. Honorable mention: Scholes - started great but faded towards the end. Rooney - wasn't up to his usual high standard but still scores a lot of goals.
Naaaa.....I did it on purpose because he's like the second coming. Christ, get it........ ....your not buying it are you, DAMN!
1. Ronaldo 2.Scholes 3. Rio Ronaldo is self-evident, Scholes was deceptively good this year, and If Rio wasn't injured I think we would be in the CL final now.
1. Ronaldo - An easy selection. 2. Scholes - Was right with Ronaldo for my money until boxing day where Ronaldo suddenly exploded into even better form. I also think Scholesey's form took a dip from then on. 3. I'm finidng so hard to pick someone here. So many worthy candidates. Hmm, VDS, Rio, Vidic, Evra, Carrick, Giggs or Rooney? Think I'll go for Rio.
I think Scholes and Giggs' legs started to go towards the end of the season, but boy did their contributions earlier in the season help us. I think that's where Fergie will be looking to improve in the summer as well.
Ronaldo (goes without saying) Scholes (unbelievably steady, consistent performer in midfield) Carrick (took a LOT of pressure off Scholes and his passing was crucial to our attacking style) Honorable mention: Evra (his speed in attack was crucial), Giggs (some of his through balls this year were unreal)
1. Ronaldo 2. Scholes 3. Rio I'm surprised at the number of votes Carrick is getting! He's been class, but for me it'd be Nemanja, Giggs, Rooney and of course Rio before Carrick.
Well, we were a completely different (and dominating) team after SAF decided to go with Carrick and Scholes in the center of a 4-4-2. I think it was the Bolton game where he first went that way, and we destroyed them and never really looked back. Plus, Carrick improved greatly over the course of the season, and by the end he was probably playing a more important role than Scholes in midfield (some of this was fatigue, of course). But once Carrick improved the pace of his decision making, he was absolutely critical to our attacking style.
I figure Ronaldo didnt really need my vote and I think Carrick has been brilliant this season. In retrospect, I probably should have voted for Ferdinand but my vote has been cast. Its easy to forget how effortless our transition from defense to offense looks and Carrick and Ferdinand are huge reasons for that. Ferdinand holds the backline together and then he is often the platform for launching things the other way. Notice how poor we look playing from the back without him and how much deeper Scholes and Carrick come to get the ball. And with Carrick, the whole thing just keeps ticking along as he always makes himself available and his always looking for the killer pass. It certainly makes our runners a lot more dangerous when the defenders know that we have someone who can put the ball in their path. Its just been a joy to watch.
