There were some terrific goals scored this week, and they did Brown no favors by posting a clip without the full build up and without a replay in the clip (such as Burciaga's fine goal). I had no compunction voting Brown as GOTW, however!
If anything, if you were at the north end of the stadium like me and didn't get a good look at it during the match, go to the site just to see the goal. (But be sure to vote too!) Simply breathtaking!
Klein's goal should have been nominated too. It was an awesome goal as well. IMHO better than the NE goal that was on there.
MLS isn't so much interested in the best goal, they want teams represented, it's actually one way they try to measure people using their website.
Has anyone else noticed that the broadcast originally gave Chicago credit for that goal and switched it to NE a few seconds later? Klein's definetly belonged there too, but how often do you see 2 goals from the same team?
I remember a few times last year. I cant recall the specifics but I know it happens a couple times. Very rarely though.
I thought RSL had dual candidates one or two times in 2005 (the few times that they scored more than one goal). I seem to recall a pair of free kicks by Mathis and Williams or Mathis and Kreis or something like that on the same week. Didn't the flopmeister (Ruiz) have two goals nominated the same week early last year?
The 3-3 Chivas tie last year. All our goals were awesome (including Talley's 40-foot Goal of the Year contender. I think all of ours and one of the Chivas goals made it as well, even though most of theirs weren't all that impressive, and mainly happened because of bad defense (surprise).
As if other teams' fans don't vote multiple times for their players. The fact is, RSL just has a well organized vote.
What a goal by Brown. Does anyone think that he doesn't deserve to at least come off the bench again vs the Rapids? Just because he scored a goal doesn't mean he should start. But I think he deserves more time on the field. His pre-season was awesome. I think I remember reading that a lot of you guys don't like him. ?
I like Brown going forward. Ellinger experimented with him on the back line and I think that is what most here didn't like.
He was horrendous on the back line last year. The year before, we tried to play him RM, but he played way too defensive and spent too much time conserving his energy to be effective going forward. As a sub, he does have a knack for beating players...we've just never seen his knack for scoring before.
If Brown for whatever reason decided to flip the switch and start playing, then great, but past experience shows that he's at best a sub on the first team.
