Real Madrid have won 121 official titles:

    - 26 regional
    - 66 Nationals
    - 29 Internationals

Of all of them, the first one was the Campeonato Regional Centro of 1904 (which in those years was called the Madrid Championship) but it so happens that Real Madrid came second in that championship, the tournament was won by Moderno CF.

Why then is Real Madrid considered champion? Well, Real Madrid is considered champion because shortly after this tournament, Moderno CF merged with Real Madrid in 1904 and the trophies of the latter team became part of Real Madrid's record.

In the early years of the 20th century there were many teams in the capital and many of them disappeared or were absorbed by other clubs. Modern CF merged with Real Madrid but other teams ended up being absorbed by Real Madrid:

    - Internacional Foot-Ball Club (1903)
    - Association Sportive Amicale (1904)
    - Moncloa FC (1907)

Surely there are more teams that ended up forming part of Real Madrid but I do not know them.

On the other hand, it should be noted that although Real Madrid was officially founded in 1902, its origin is in 1897 when the (Sociedad) Foot-ball Sky was created, which would later be called New Foot-Ball Club. In 1900 this club was split in two and the Nueva Sociedad Foot-ball was created, which in 1901 would be renamed (Sociedad) Madrid Foot-Ball Club and which in 1902 would officially be the beginning of Real Madrid (although maintaining its name of (Sociedad) Madrid Foot-Ball Club).

I was working Top Ten Real Madrid players in different position. I have not promoted until today because I was not ready. I posted it here because of Aitor Karanka whose career here was cut short due to pericarditis

I lacked of knowledge of how to rank the older players. Some players played in multi-positions.

The central defenders' ranking is controversial. I put Sergio Ramos as Number one and Varane made the Top 10.

The last great #10. A shame he ruined the latter part of his career at Arsenal.

Supposedly his father convinced him the move to Arsenal was in his best interest and wanted to get him a pay raise. Özil would come to regret the decision later and even fired his father from being his agent. His story is a lesson to youngsters that they need to think for themselves and avoid letting agent/parents make their career decisions. Kylian Mbappe perhaps learned from Özil's mistakes.

I loved the guy when he was around. In fact, his departure affected me more than any player. Iker, Zidane, Raul, etc left when their time was up. Ozil was in his prime. It was a big mistake, I thought. Then, after what I saw of him in England, we did not miss much. Modric and Isco would have sent him to the bench. Perez probably knew something that we did not know.

    SANTIAGO BERNABEU TROPHIES

The Santiago Bernabeu Trophy was held for the first time in 1979 and the last to date in 2018 and during most of its editions the cup that was given to the champion is the one that most of us know:

    1981.jpg

This trophy was awarded from 1981 (the first time that Real Madrid won the title of champion) but it was not always the case, for example, in the first edition a gigantic trophy of almost 70 kilograms was awarded and won by Bayern Munich:

    1979a.jpg

    1979b.jpg

In the second edition a cup more similar to the one of today was delivered (in several internet sites I have seen this photo as the photo corresponding to that year 1980, although I must clarify that in some photos that I have seen of Bayern collecting the trophy from that year the cup seems somewhat different):

    1980.jpg

Finally, in 2002, on the occasion of the Real Madrid Centenary, the trophy was modified (only for that edition), giving a 30-kilogram silver replica of the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.

    TrofeoBernabeu26.jpg

It is curious that on the three occasions in which the trophy has been different from the usual one, the victory has always been taken by Bayern Munich.

With yesterday's victory at “El Clásico”, Real Madrid achieved its fourth consecutive victory in La Liga against FC Barcelona, tying its second best streak in history in this championship against its greatest rival. The three best streaks of Real Madrid are:

    - From 3/1/2020 to 10/24/2021 (open streak): 4 victories with 9 goals in favor and 3 against.
    - From 3/5/1933 to 2/3/1935: 4 victories with 16 goals for and 4 against. This streak includes the biggest victory in La Liga for Real Madrid over FC Barcelona (8-2 with 4 goals from Sañudo, 3 from Lazcano and 1 from Luis Regueiro).
    - From 9/30/1962 to 2/28/1965: 6 victories with 19 goals in favor and 4 against. This is the best streak of either team in the history of "El Clásico" in the Spanish league.

In 1966, Manolo Santana won the Wimbledon. He was the first Spaniard to win it. He asked Raimundo Saporta, at that time vice president of the Real Madrid , permission to use the team’s shield in his shirt. That year, Real Madrid also won their 6th European Cup.

I'm not an expert on paper, but what sort of paper would have indicated higher quality? Still, I'm appreciating it all the same.

I don't mean the print, i mean the magazine, they did a magazine issue entirely on Real Madrid a while ago. It was on paper with a matte finish paper, i would've prefered a more glossy higher value paper, but i understand that this would've elevated the cost to double of what it was.

    PACO GENTO

Today Francisco "Paco" Gento, European football legend and one of the best players in the history of Real Madrid, passed away. With the death of Gento little by little the great stars of Real Madrid at the end of the 1950s are disappearing, I think that of the great players of that time only José Emilio Santamaría remains alive. Di Stéfano, Puskas, Kopa or Rial have been dead for years.

Gento is a total legend at Real Madrid, for me without a doubt one of the three most important players in the history of the club along with his teammate Di Stéfano and Cristiano Ronaldo. When he retired, he was the player who had played the most seasons and had played the most games in the history of Real Madrid. He currently holds the record of 18 seasons (tied with Sanchís Jr and Miguel Ángel González) and is the player who has won the most titles with Real Madrid with 23 (tied with Marcelo).

It must be borne in mind that in Gento's time there were no Spanish or European Super Cups and during the first editions of the European Cup there was also no Intercontinental Cup. For example, if Super Cups and Intercontinental Cups had been played in those years, Gento could have played ¡¡19 more finals!! (13 from the Spanish Super Cup, 2 from the European Super Cup and 4 more from the Intercontinental Cup). If he had only won half of them, we would be talking about a record of 32-33 titles with Real Madrid, something absolutely unattainable for the rest of the players who have played for the club.

He is also the player who has won the Spanish league the most times with 12 titles (2 more than Pirri and Messi).

But Gento is not only a legend at Real Madrid or in the Spanish La Liga, even today he is still the player who has won the most European Cups (Champions League) in all of history with 6 titles and is also the player who has played the most finals together with Paolo Maldini (8 finals each).

    Paco Gento
played 15 consecutive seasons in the European Cup when then only the League champions or the current European Cup champion played this competition, that was a record (yet another) absolutely insurmountable with those conditions.

    Gento
is, along with CR7, the player who has played the most decisive matches in the European Cup (Champions) if we add the quarter-final, semi-final and final matches with 49 matches.

    https://es.uefa.com/uefachampionsle...ns-league-records-y-estadisticas-de-la-final/

But his records do not end at club level, with the Spanish NT he became the second player with the most caps in history (43), only 3 behind Ricardo Zamora's record.

In addition, in the 1964 European Championship won by Spain NT, Gento was a decisive player since in the round of 16 Spain drew at home against Northern Ireland and in the second leg won 0-1 with a goal from Gento, with that goal Spain he qualified for the quarterfinals and later ended up winning the final played in Madrid.

In short, today one of the best Spanish players, Real Madrid players and wingers in the entire history of football has left.

    R.I.P.

A rather curious story is the one that took place at the Santiago Bernabeu on February 21, 1962 in the second leg of the European Cup quarterfinals between Real Madrid and Juventus Turin.

To date, Real Madrid had played 22 official matches at home (19 in the European Cup, 2 in the Latin Cup and 1 in the Intercontinental Cup) with the result of 21 wins and 1 draw. Precisely this only draw had as a consequence the only elimination of Real Madrid in Europe up to that moment.

    The previous 22 games were:

    LATIN CUP

    - 5-1 Milan (1957)
    - 1-0 Benfica (1957)

    INTERCONTINENTAL CUP

    - 5-1 Peñarol (1960)

    EUROPEAN CUP

    - 5-0 Servette (season 55/56)
    - 4-0 Partizan (season 55/56)
    - 4-2 Milan (season 55/56)
    - 4-2 Rapid (season 56/57)
    - 2-0 Rapid (playoff) (season 56/57)
    - 3-0 Nice (season 56/57)
    - 3-1 Manchester United (season 56/57)
    - 6-0 Royal Antwerp (season 57/58)
    - 8-0 Seville (season 57/58)
    - 4-0 Vasas (season 57/58)
    - 2-0 Besiktas (season 58/59)
    - 7-1 Wiener Sport Club (season 58/59)
    - 2-1 Atletico Madrid (season 58/59)
    - 7-0 Jeunesse Esch (season 59/60)
    - 4-0 Nice (59/60 season)
    - 3-1 Barcelona (season 59/60)
    - 2-2 Barcelona (season 60/61)
    - 3-1 Vasas (season 61/62)
    - 9-0 Boldklubben 1913 (season 61/62)

In total we are talking about 22 games with 21 wins, 1 draw, 93 goals for (4.23 per game) and only 13 against (0.59 per game) with a spectacular +80 goal difference.

Well, that February 21, 1962 Real Madrid for the first time in history was not able to score any goal at home in official international competition and ended up losing an international match at home for the first time in history after falling 0-1 against Juventus.

But the curiosity to which I referred at the beginning of my message is the following. The match began with the players dressed as follows:

    siv.jpg

As you can see in the photo of Di Stefano and Sivori, Juventus is totally in black and Real Madrid is in white. Sivori scores 0-1 in the 38th minute and the break is reached with that result. At that moment, Di Stefano complained to the referee that the Juventus uniform was confused with the referee's (who was also wearing black) and proposed that Juventus play with the Real Madrid away kit, which was purple under threat of that if they don't change their uniform Real Madrid won't play the second half. Finally the referee accepts and Juventus plays the second half in purple and ends up winning the match 0-1.

Therefore, Real Madrid's first loss at home in European competitions came against a team…….. who also wore the Real Madrid shirt :D:D:D.

I have not been able to find photos of the Italian team with the purple jersey so if anyone knows of any, I would appreciate it if you uploaded it to the thread.

As for the tie, in Turin Real Madrid won 0-1, in Madrid the same result in favor of the Italians and in the tiebreaker played in Paris Real Madrid won 3-1.

I wrote this post in 2014. I turned this post into a blog entry on September of the same year. Over here:

Six years later, this blogger Artur Yanturin stole my blog page. His entry was written in 2020, but mine was uploaded in 2014. He also copied many many of my blog entries.

WHICH PLAYER HAS BEEN THE GREATEST FAILURE OF REAL MADRID IN ITS 120 YEARS OF HISTORY?

To enter this list we have to talk about players who came to Real Madrid as stars but later performed far below expectations.

I can think of several examples that for one thing or another did not end up triumphing in the white team, either due to their continuous injuries (Hazard, Prosinecki) or due to a lack of continuity, since they started many games as a substitute (Owen). Also, although he was not a star at the level of the previous ones, we can include Cunningham who at the time was the most expensive signing in the history of Real Madrid and whose career was ruined by injuries. Even the Brazilian Kaká who performed well below what was initially expected.

But for me, the biggest failure in the history of the club was carried out by another Brazilian who is considered one of the 25 best players of all time in many lists, but who did not succeed at Real Madrid despite being part of the best team that Real Madrid has had in its history; Di Stefano's Real Madrid. I'm talking about Waldir Pereira, “Didi”.

Didí was a great star when he signed for the white team in 1959, in fact it is said that he was the best player in the 1958 World Cup and also, for many experts, the best player of 1958 in the world. But despite those credentials, he failed to adapt to the demands of a club like Real Madrid and it seems that he did not have a good relationship with Real Madrid star Alfredo di Stéfano. The Argentine demanded total dedication from all his teammates and established stars in the world of football such as Santamaría, Gento, Puskas, Rial or Kopa, in addition to their quality on the pitch, they also had to work very hard on the pitch to "not anger" Di Stefano. It goes without saying that the first to get to work was the Argentine himself to set an example for his teammates.

Well, it seems that Didí "wasn't a hard worker" and that made him not fit in with that locker room or with a person like Alfredo di Stéfano for whom hard work came first. In an interview, Di Stéfano spoke of a "lack of commitment" on the part of the Brazilian since he did not want to run and the only thing he was looking for was for his teammates to put the "ball on his foot".

He only played in the 1959/60 spanish league where he only scored 6 goals in 19 games (he never made his debut in the European Cup and Copa del Rey).

After leaving Real Madrid, he would become World Champion in 1962 for the second time in his career.
Of all the historical players who have passed through Real Madrid (and when I say "historical" I mean top players in the world rankings) I think Didí is the only one who has not managed to adapt and that is why for me he is the biggest failure in the history of the club that turns 120 today.

On the other hand, I am going to make a small mention of a player who went through Real Madrid, who has one of the best national team honors of all time but who is very little remembered for his time at Real Madrid, I am referring to Uruguayan Hector Scarone.

Yes, Scarone went through Real Madrid, but not as a player but as a coach :D:D:D.

His track record as a player is almost unbeatable with 4 Copa America, 1 World Cup and
2 Gold Medals at the Olympic Games (these last two titles are recognized by FIFA) and he is a clear candidate for the best player in the world of the first 30 years of the 20th century along with José Leandro Andrade.

Scarone coached Real Madrid from March 1951 to April 1952 and did not win any official title, playing 48 games with 25 wins, 10 draws and 13 losses. Coaching the team in a time of transition and for just one year today he is little remembered at the club despite having been a world football legend as a player.

A bit of a dated article, but the key points still ring true even today. PSG is missing a key component that Real Madrid has in spades: A winning culture, that demands complete commitment to football and only that earns them the favor of all Madridistas.
