The story does seem to be unravelling a bit, mainly because there doesn't appear to be a shred of evidence linking this doctor to any of the clubs/groups he claims to have been involved with. If it was thought to be credible, it'd be a massive story here. It's not.
If you are selling magic potions to suckers, one of the things you do is tell them that famous guys swear by them. Its what you do. If you are selling stories, one of the things you do is tell everybody what their subject has been saying to the folks he's selling to. Its what you do. And there's no longer much percentage in figuring out whether he's been lying about it or not. Somebody else can go to that effort after you have collected the initial profit...
