Looks like he's now at St. Pauli -- believe that's him at right in this picture: https://www.mopo.de/sport/fc-st-pau...erobern-herzen-der-st--pauli-spieler-37266520 In the story, Fab says he's Swiss-German-American. That may be old news but figured I'd note.
Now the team manager: Derek Rae @RaeComm NEW: Fabian Hürzeler is the new head coach of St. Pauli & becomes the latest US-born coach to be appointed to a team in the top 2 divisions in Germany. Hürzeler was previously asst to Timo Schultz, & at 29 is younger than 2 of his players, Sascha Burchert & Christopher Avevor. 1/2 Hürzeler was born in Houston, TX due to his parents‘ work at the time, training to be dentists before building their own dental practice in Munich. He has American citizenship as well as German. Time as caretaker with St Pauli impressed Andreas Bornemann & his team. 2/2 @bungadiri @dark knight @TheFalseNine Let's update the thread title, please. Fabian Huerzeler (or Hürzeler, if you prefer) Head Coach at St. Pauli
@bungadiri I hate to be *that* guy, but the phrase "Bringing Sechzig Back" can be deleted as it doesn't make any sense when he's not at 1860 (Sechzig = 60).
Hurzeler spoke to ASN about getting the head coaching job at St. Pauli - at age 29. - If any of you are Philadelphia Union fans, Fabian talks about Jim Curtin being an influence of his. At just 29 years old, Fabian Hurzeler has been named the head coach of St. Pauli to guide the club in a 2.Bundesliga relegation fight. I spoke to the former U.S. U-20 midfielder about his rise in coaching, his vision, and his past. (1/2)https://t.co/HJ1kXoiCql— Brian Sciaretta (@BrianSciaretta) January 17, 2023
If anybody is curious how he is doing so far: outstanding. That is the only way to describe what he has archieved. 10 games played, ten games won, conceding just 3 goals. When he took charge of St. Pauli, they were fighting relegation and had just one point more than the last placed team. With his victory today at Heidenheim, who were second placed before this matchday, he has put St. Pauli in position to get involved in the race for promotion.
In the fight for the promotion playoff with a couple of weeks to play after today, 4 points behind Hamburg who play tomorrow. If you want to watch them in action, they are currently playing on ESPN+.
He's still in his first year of coaching, but he's been tremendous. If he takes St. Pauli to the Bundesliga, he won't be there for long. He's seen as one of the big, upcoming coaches in Germany right now. Last December, St. Pauli was on the edge of the 2.Bundesliga relegation zone. They hired Houston-born Fabian Hurzeler for his first managerial job. He was only 29.His league record since then: 25 games, 17 wins, 6 draws, 2 lossesToday, they sit atop the 2.Bundesliga pic.twitter.com/jQFrilpfO0— Brian Sciaretta (@BrianSciaretta) October 2, 2023
This looks (based on a quick translate/skim) to be a pretty light interview, but here ya go anyway. https://www.tag24.de/sport/fussball...ass-die-sucht-irgendwann-wieder-kickt-3018097
Hurzeler is very highly regarded in Germany at the moment. He's seen as a very promising young German manager. He's going places.
His squad met Fortuna Dusseldorf today in the quarterfinals of the DFB Pokal. Match went to ET tied 1-1. He drew a 2nd yellow and was sent off in the 120th: 120' Fabian #Hürzeler has incurred the wrath of the referee again and has been sent off.🟥#fcsp | #fcspf95 1-2— FC St. Pauli English (@fcstpauli_EN) January 30, 2024 His club then scored in 120" +1.
