They're in the Premier League now? I really need to get out from under this avoiding-English-soccer-rock I've been living under.
I'm actually excited it's the Swans and not one of the big 4 or 5 English Clubs. It might not draw as well at the gate, but it will probably be a more competitive match.
I agree this is good news but will we play our first team against them or reserves/youth team like Philly just did against Schalke? I should Add Philly beat FC Schalke (3rd place Bundesliga) 2-1 even with that roster
This is the night before the All-Star Game so any All-Stars won't be there. We have our second road game against FSL the Saturday before and our home game against Seattle the Saturday after.
I wouldn't be shocked if the younger and/or healthy starters get a half. Casey, Mullan, Smith, etc. won't play more than 15 minutes as a sub but somebody like Rivero might get 45 minutes.
So if TH3 called and asked if you'd rather have an exhibition against a mid-table Premier League team or one of the better Mexican or South American sides, what do you pick? Let's consider all of the financial ramifications a wash just for the sake of convenience.
Personally? A mid-table EPL team probably. Maybe one of the top South American sides but I have no interest in the Mexican teams.
I personally would love to see any South American side. Maybe we can get the team Independiente from Argentina here for Independiente our memeber here? Or Rivero's club, although they might try and smuggle him back.
I think I agree, although it would be fun to see the Rapids play one of the strong Brazilian or Argentinean teams.
This is a great choice. Swansea out Arsenal'd Arsenal this year if you're in to the passing/pressing/possession thing. Up and down season but they had plenty of highlights. I guess...it's a friendly. It's more or less by definition not a competitive match. Getting them late in July probably helps a little, though. (The May friendlies seem horrible.)
Call me interested. I'll be there. Swansea aren't a "sexy" name but they play an attractive brand of football. It's fun to watch. They are a short passing, quick transitioning team. I love how they can shift the point of attack almost seamlessly. I've always hope for Arsenal but Swansea are of the same, attractive style. Pareja company can learn a thing or two from Brendan Rodgers and the Swans. I'm most interested in seeing Leon Britton, the world's most accurate passer. He's Xavi-like and the diminutive #7 is so smooth on the ball. He should play for England but they wouldn't know what to do with a guy that good on the ball.
I am jealous. Swans play an awesome brand of football. Trust me Colorado, this will be an entertaining game for you guys. The Crew have ZZZZZtoke City for their July game. I would switch teams in a heartbeat.
What It's probably a good thing Stoke isn't coming. The thin air in CO might cause a Rory Delap and Dean Whithead throw-in to go over the Rockies and into the Pacific!
" Swansea, they say they are the Barcelona of the EPL - they get the ball down and play. " And here I was hoping to see a good EPL ping pong match. Guess I'll have to reset my expectations.
I like it, way better then getting nothing at all. But lets see a south America team brought in too. Then we can compare to yet another league. Can't OP work some magic and get at least a Columbian side in?
lol, very true. But I bet their under 17 team could probably play even with just about all MLS sides.
