Mods, can you sticky please? The San Jose Sports Authority is sponsoring a "Bring It Home" rally for the Quakes on March 31, 2005 at 5-6:30 p.m. in Cesar Chavez Park, the same location as the SSV rally in August. The players will be there and the new uniform will be unveiled to the public. Local political dignitaries have been invited and on the heels of the City's announcement that it will be investigating a new stadium as part of a new SJSU south campus recreation district, it is important that we have numbers at the rally. And plus it will be cool to see all the new players. Check www.soccersiliconvalley.com and http://www.sjsa.org/ for more details.
Didn't see anything on the SJSA website in either the news section or the calendar section about the rally. So I emailed them. Are they really a "sponsor?"
If by "sponsor" do you mean pay for and organize everything, then yes. I'd expect the web page to be updated soon.
I'm in... Even though the uniforms have already been shown on the league site, this is a good time to show the new threads, and this time to us the fans... cheers!
We understand that there are some flyers and things that will be finished up shortly, so as soon as we have those we'll let everyone know that they're available. In the meantime, please do make plans to be there. Some of the San Jose City Council members who have been very helpful to us were at the first rally (Cindy Chavez, Chuck Reed) but we're expecting a better turnout from city officials at this rally, and they need to be wowed by the turnout. This is also a great opportunity to demonstrate our commitment as fans to the players. There's a lot of new guys who are just learning what it means to be a Quake and we can help show them what it means to BELIEVE and NEVER GIVE UP!
Hmm...I wonder if my new job has that day off? Do you know it just so happens to be Cesar Chavez day that day? I know I have that as a paid holiday, but I'm not sure if it will be that day or Friday.
I'll head down right after work (should get me there on time). Let me know via e-mail or PM if you need me to lead chants, etc. I'll plan on bringing the drum.
Yeah, I work for county (I think) government. I know I have Cesar Chavez as a paid holiday, but I'm not 100% sure it's being observed that day. Most likely it is, but I'll find out on Monday.
BK, he should be there! I want him to see a MUCH larger crowd than Baseball San Jose has ever gathered and realize that the Quakes are an important asset to the City of San Jose! GO QUAKES!! - Mark
Folks, We owe it to SSV to be there. So do what ever you have to do to be there. Might be a good night at the Brit afterwards as well Pints are on Pat B
For the last rally, you guys were able to hand out flyers at a game. How will you get the word out for this one?
Once SJSA and Quakes print the flyers you guys will help us hand out flyers to all your soccer loving friends. Quakes are going to tell season ticket holders, and SJSA are issuing press releases. But it is going to be more of an effort to get folks there. And it will be in prime time news hour too, so we do need folks to help us here.
Are the fliers like graphic intensive or something? Couldn't you maybe email them in pdf format or some such fairly universal fromat and we could print them out for you? I'd be willing to chip in a few bucks to print a few fliers. Unless there's a special way they need to look or something.... Otherwise, how are you going to get them to us?
We're going to put a pdf download on our website. We're counting on everybody to do as you are volunteering.
Sad to say, I won't be around for the rally, as I have to make an impromtu visit to a small 3rd world country (Arkansas). Alas, I will be there in spirit if not physically. I will certainly post a note on clubquake.org and link to the PDF. Does SSV need help hosting the file?
I'll be out of town, but can definitely print out and post some flyers. Maybe people should start calling into the radio talk shows and push for more Quake coverage, including talking about this rally....
