The Athletic is reporting that is minor and that according to Mendy himself, it will result in him being out for "a maximum of 2 weeks" but that he will almost certainly not play in our next match
I wouldn’t be shocked to see Willy but I think it’s Kepa. They need to see if he can bounce back and accept the competition and do well. A good showing means we have a battle and opens up more options to loan/sell in the future. This is also a favorable match up. So assuming we don’t shlt the bed we should keep a clean sheet.
From being benched. With GKs there’s a lot of mind games that come with being yanked and put back in. It’s taxing mentally and their role is as well. Hopefully he responds positively.
Love it! Kinda like pinning your dreams on an unknown GK from Senegal whilst ignoring how porous your defense and managerial tactics are. If you think more of the above isn't going to happen all the time, that's crazy town.
This topic rivals Brexit as a pointless topic of debate. People have long since made their choices and are not going to be moved. Indeed as time goes on they become increasingly entrenched. I will have to stop typing now as my eyes are glazing over. Zzzzzzzzzz
Good grief were the 20 or so links I've already posted not enough for you? You find me ONE link to somebody (anybody) that said Kepa was anything other than poor last season - just ONE! To be honest with you you're getting pretty pathetic about this whole thing.
It's an elaborate long-term troll job. Has to be. And fair play, its brilliant. Totally worked. Half the members of this board have been working up into a lather over it at some point in the last couple months (including me)
As with many other things in the world today, things get polarised quickly and ground rarely yielded. Seems to be little room for debate which is a shame, just a bludgeoning of the facts on both sides. I tend to lean towards Petr Cech on this, who did offer a more moderate take. A bit of give and a bit of take. And who am I to argue with the legend? “Kepa struggled last season, that is unquestionable. “But the club invested in him and gave him a long-term contract because they believe he has the qualities and attributes to be successful. “Additions will be made to the squad, perhaps even in goal, and this is what is being discussed now. “But nobody is giving up on Kepa and we all hope he has a great future.”
Brock quite literally reviewed every goal scored against us last season. People can offer up quotes, link articles, etc. but almost no one that I’ve seen here has recognized the fact that he actually went and did the research. I did as well for a few matches to show what a garbage statistic xG or PSxG is. It gets ignored. Regardless of who is really right here, it’s funny to see. In any case, does Kepa being 3rd in cleansheets in the league the season prior ever factor into this chatter? Does the fact that no one was recognizably asking for him to be dropped until it happened ever factor into this? Does Lampard’s game of “I have no idea who to start outside of Mason Mount” ever factor into this? Or the icing of our previously best defender by a mile, Rudiger, ever call into question deeper issues as far as squad/player confidence are concerned? No, mostly, it’s a pretty ruthless, dumbed down discussion aimed at writing a player off to excuse core team issues. More than Kepa, thats what I find frustrating. To Dr i’s earlier point, its been beaten to death. Yet, no it is noless frustrating.. similar to the absentminded neoliberal “thinking“ that has resulted in my home country voting, yet again, for the “lesser of two evils,” I can’t help but feel like it’s the same lack of thought has led to the absurd scapegoating of Kepa. Yeah, sure, get Biden but uh, the country’s still got one or two (lol) issues to work out.
