In the house tonight - Lorrie, Heather, Rakel Karvelsson, Melissa, E-I, Kelly (who looked terrific), Tara Koleski, Jennifer, Erin Martin (with her boyfriend), Rebekah McDowell, Kerry Connors and Maite Zabala. Almost 200 folks at the shindig tonight, just outstanding. No assistants yet, and there is a lot of scouting of talent that's going on. Things are looking up, and after talking to the team and Coach K, I really don't think there's too much to worry about on that front. And they had a raffle for 5 medium-sized away jerseys for Heather, Erica, Kelly, Lorrie and Jen. Proceeds went to the newly established "Charge Charities", which is a pretty cool move on their part. I only add the smiley because of this: I have a flu bug, too, so I'm signing off for now. Kudos to the team for as many of the players that did show up when they really didn't have to. It's appreciated lots. Paul
I imagine the names you list will be those who play on Monday. I don't have the flu, just a crappy stomach, which can't hold down food. Gatorade and Imodium have helped, and a good night sleep last night. I also received a renewal notice in the mail, which I've mailed in.
I had a feeling that Melissa in particular was pining for home, since her husband Matt was on a break from his teaching job in San Diego (he gets a certain amount of time off after a certain number of weeks on). I felt bad for her and made an extra effort to thank her for showing up. She was a lot more gracious than I turned out to be when I brought up the post-season awards snubbing she got, and set me straight on it Paul
So did Melissa whack you up the side of your head or what??? Interesting Demko's name wasn't listed?? I wonder what's become of her?? As to assistant coaches, my favorite rumor has to do with the current coach at Hartford... and just like the San Diego matter, nothing can really happen until the college season is over.
No, she just told me that you can't dwell on it too much. Still, I don't think she'll invite the Michael Strahan wannabe (and we won't mention Abby's name at all here) over for dinner anytime soon Ditto... Paul
It's seems the injured and the reserves weren't there. I assume the reserve pay is too meagre to hang around Phialdelphia. Benson - car accident recovery, in California?? Tullock - nats camp injury, back in Arizona? Monroe - ankle surgery , where??? Alfiler - back in Hawaii?? Hall - back in Florida?? Demko might be on the road scouting??? The conspiracy part in me would have tons of people asking her about coaching, and she wouldn't be able to hide the news if she is becoming a coach. This is simply speculation on my part... Just like the possibility of Eva Bengsten being my selection for successor to Pia... all just rumor, started by me..just some tea leaf reading here... I see wher NY beat Boston 3-0, with Millbrett getting 2..
Great horny toads, I'm on the Charge website's front page! ($1 to Yosemite Sam) The pictures from last night's reception at the Radnor are now up, and your moderator is the one next to Kerry Conners http://www.internetsoccer.com/images/Connors_Signs_Full.jpg Just go to PhiladelphiaCharge.com and look for the Photo Gallery for the remaining four pictures... Paul (thanks, Charge....)
Karyn Hall is back at the University of Florida working on finishing up her degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering (5-year major). She'll be at the Hall of Fame game 10/14.
chargecard5 raises a good point about newly drafted players, coming to training camp end up missing the spring semester, except for a player like Tullock. Curiously, who pays for their continuing education, is it their scholarship, wusa, or does the player have to foot the bill? Sounds like Hall hs good prospects after her playing career, given her major ... Hey Charge!, aren't you a bit underdressed there?? Where's your jersey??
I didn't have a chance to change, and a slight majority, I think, of people came dressed up. Of course it didn't help on the return trip that the R5 was going at the pace of a snail on valium from Radnor to 30th Street, where my head cold progressively worsened. It was good that I took a vacation day in advance yesterday, or else I probably would have kissed my perfect attendance attempt goodbye (I had 2 sick days last year which ended an 11-year streak of perfect attendance). Paul
Well, you could have spent the night at the Radnor Hotel. When I was working in Radnor doing ABC Polls, we'd be there till 2 am working and spend the rest of the night at the hotel. Sounds like I didn't miss any major annoucements, and with the turn-out, I'd say the event was a success. So is Charge! making the trip to Oneota?? My next Charge event should be when scrimmage time rolls around next March. Also, was there any mention of what the 11th Charge home match will be next year. Charge have ONLY 10 WUSA matches, because it's an ODD year. I assume a friendly with some Euro side?? Or perhaps some NATIONAL side preparing for the World Cup would play the Charge?? Perhaps the USA nats play some WUSA sides??
I can only speak for Karyn (I'm related to her). She's on a scholarship. I suppose it's the same way for the other rookies back in school, or they are paying for their education themselves.
Chargecard5, pass on the Karyn all the support from all the Charge supporters. And if you get a chance, ask her if she ever got in contact with Thorsten?
I'll pass the good wishes on to Karyn when I talk to her. I know she'll appreciate it! And I'll ask her about Thorsten.
