Bridgeview Sports Dome to become Fire Training Facility

The Fire will use the dome for practice during cold and rainy months, Landek said.

That will require some improvements to the facility, including the installation of a new turf surface, said Peter Wilt, the team's general manager.

The building will be open to the public when the team is not using it, Landek said. The team will not move to Bridgeview until 2006, when the stadium is completed.

"This won't preclude golf or anything else," he said. "There are 24 hours in a day. There will be room for other things."

The team also wants to add one or two fields next to the dome as part of the stadium project. The village owns 15 acres between the dome and 95th Street, where the fields could go, Landek said.

That's a change from Bridgeview's original stadium proposal, which called for several practice fields to be built at the soccer stadium site. That plan was abandoned because it consumed too much space that could be used for parking, but one or two practice fields will still be built, Wilt said.

By placing fields by the sports dome, the team also can use them for its youth training programs, he said.

Officials also plan on using the parking lot at the dome for remote stadium parking and possibly for some pre-game events, Landek said.

The village also hopes to use the sports dome property for one of two marquee signs it will erect for advertising stadium and village events. The signs are required as part of a written agreement between the village and Anschutz Entertainment Group, the owner of the Fire.

The signs must get approval from the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority.

They better use mapquest to find the dome as that thing is off some side streets that don't have an outlet.

To confuse you they not only have the normal numbered streets running east and west, they have numbered streets running north and south.

That's true just about anywhere. The difference is E-W they are streets. N-S they are avenues.

You mean 79th and Harlem?

If you look at the mapquest link I posted the dome is off of 87th street so 8-10 blocks south and a few blocks west of Harlem.

Take the 385 to get there. It goes down 87th to Roberts.

Then try to get a ride back to Midway.
