I am trying to find a link, but West is not listed in the starting lineup by VG and is questionable due to a thigh injury. Kickoff is at 6 p.m. here in Norway, high noon eastern standard time.

West started and scored two goals in a 3-0 win.

not a bad player, but speed is almost his only quality. But he is maybe the fastest soccer player I have ever seen- he can FLY.

So have Richie Williams, Chad Deering, and Pete Vagenas. West isn't good enough to play for the nats anymore, and, except for maybe on an all-Euro team, I don't think that will change anytime in the future.

he didnt ask if he was good enough to play for the nats anymore.

He asked if he was good enough to play for the nats.

Since he HAS played for the nats, the answer is yes. Pretty simple eh?

Not to insert myself in the middle of this pissoir sword fight, but would anyone really say Ritchie Williams or Tony Meola "is" good enough to play for the Nats? I would not. A desire to indicate that someone has at one time been good enough would probably suggest a past tense of the verb "to be."

    Just a suggestion.

    And yet...

"Before the match, Meola revealed that he and Kasey Keller would be called into the U.S.'qualifiers vs. Grenada on June 13 and 20 by national coach Bruce Arena. Meola, a Kearny, N.J., product, has 99 international appearances."

    http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/more_sports/story/198474p-171392c.html

"He said I played well enough so far this year to warrant to be called back in," Meola said. "The only thing I told him that if it's a matter of giving me my 100th cap, then I don't want it. ... I don't want a gift. He told me, when you earn it, you'll get it."

i'm aware of that. but he isn't good enough to play for them now, and thats all that really matters. honestly, who gives a ******** if he was good enough to play garbage time against russia in a meaningless friendly 4 years ago?

lets just focus on this game.

I believe he appeared in 5 games in 2002 - what has changed so drastically between now and then? Could he have improved since his last appearance?

Did I miss when Brian West got worse? It's not like he's old. I think a lot of the reason for his recent callups is that Bruce thought he might blossom, and it just didn't completely happen.

i believe west was also one of the "stay-at-home alternates" for the 2002 world cup.

One of the basic problems with West and a nats future is that with the gaping hole we've had at right mid, one would think that if Bruce continued to have any interest at all he would have gotten another look.

West always _looks_ good out there, like he's about to do something great, but has had trouble delivering the goods.

Is he playing up top now, or in the midfield?

At this point West would be probably about 30th in the pecking order, but again, the question wasnt asked in a time period.

If you guys want more direct answers, ask more direct QUESTIONS.

I find it funny really that this thread has gotten 17 replies, whereas the Russell thread, with a much more important result and it's implications for his possible transfer to Rosenborg and possible Champion's League football for a 25 year old right back, one of the nats glaring problems has received five.

    Only goals matter!
    West - 2
    Russell - 1

he was a late-game sub in all of those games and didn't make the final world cup roster. he hasn't been called up since.

in the meantime, conor casey, landon donovan, josh wolff, jeff cunningham, and taylor twellman have joined a pool of forwards that already included brian mcbride, clint mathis, jovan kirovski, and ante razov. also players like edson buddle, eddie johnson, and even alecko eskandarian, brian ching, and john wolyniec have garnered some serious interest and a handful of caps.

brian west now plays in norway and is off of the national team's radar. so a lot has changed.

i just don't think that he is international quality. there is no shame in that. he's still a useful player.

What I don't get is why the response to "West scores 2 in Norway!," a fun headline, has to elicit the response, "He's not good enough for the Nats!" or "Why are we paying attention to this instead of the Robbie Russell thread?"

It's not like he's getting called up based on one great game. If he has a great season, Bruce will revisit the issue.

Why does every YA thread have to knee-jerk to the player's Nats standing and implications? Put together several good games or a season, and then we can evaluate.
