Where did it talk about Mcbride??? And these threads are popping up just as much as the O'brien and Rossi threads.

The lone scoring forward the USA has, Clint Dempsey, looked very jaded in the games he played. A rough year at Fulham seems to have taken a great deal out of him. The others simply are not ready: Eddie Johnson only scores goals when the Americans have a commanding lead, and neither Brian Ching nor Sacha Kljestan seems capable of filling the bill. What's needed? A competent target man who can play at speed. Brian McBride says he might return — will Bradley call him?

As the current euro's have shown this is a young mans game and getting younger. Thirty -six year old forwards on the top international stage are not that common. McBride should stay retired so as not to soil his high reputation.

Yup. I've been making fun of Canada for still calling up Radzinski, who's 35.

I want guys playing for us right now who'll be part of the 2010 WC. We're going to qualify from CONCACAF with our current crop of forwards. During the 2 years until WC10, two or three of that group will distinguish themselves as the bona fide starters.

Can we give Kenny Cooper, Edson Buddle, and Altidore some games before calling in a 36 y/o playing on a surgically repaired knee? It's not like McBride was tickling the twine for the US before he retired.

Bigsoccer pledge - I [insert name] do solemly swear that I will never click on or read any article ever written by any so-called soccer journalist whose last name ends with Trecker. Throughout time Trecker has shown himself to be factually incorrect on several occasions, ignorant, stupid, biased, idiotic and a waste of carbon. As a result any refuse that happens to be linked on bigsoccer citing Mr. Trecker will not be read by myself or any of my fellow bigsoccer readers as long as I shall live.

Neither Spain nor Germany are what you would consider young.

Sweeden was the oldest team, 31 was the average. They looked every year of it. They were a hell of a team in 2002, 04 and even 06. They have been going with that combo for a long time now.

Aside from Puyol, Capdevila and Senna they are actually quite young. Well, Xavi and Marchena are 28, which most would consider peak years.

    Casillas - 27
    Ramos - 22
    Puyol - 30
    Marchena - 28
    Capdevila - 30
    Senna - 31
    Xavi - 28
    Iniesta - 24
    Silva - 22
    Santi Cazorla - 23
    Guiza - 27
    Villa - 26
    Torres - 24

That seems like about the perfect age distribution to me. Germany also has a good mix of experience and youth in the team.

    Keller - 35
    Dolo - 26
    Pope - 31
    Gooch - 24
    Boca - 27
    Reyna - 32
    Mastro - 28
    Beaz - 24
    LD - 24
    Convey - 23
    Mcbride - 32

Avg age of Spain - 26.3
Median (and more important) age of Spain - 27

Avg age of USA - 27.8
Median (and more important) age of USA - 27

Take out the keepers and Spain's average age is 26.25, and USA's us 27.1, while both have a median age of 26.5

People were complaining we were too old in 06, well you can't say Spain has the right blend AND say we were too old

Well, good thing I didn't say that then. We weren't too old. We just weren't good enough.

Since we are talking about forwards here:

    David Villa:26
    Torres:24

    Podolski:23
Klose: 30 (And having a bad tournament by his standards)

People seem to forget that point so quickly. He wasn't productive for the US in 2005-2006, but suddenly he is going to rise from the ashes in 2008-2009 to save us? We'd be better served if Bradley called up the forwards that are/were right here in front of him.

Taking McBride to Olimpics = failure. Sorry, but he no longer capable for that competion, US should focus more on the young guns. Like: Shea, Zimmerman, Ochoa, Ferrari, Altidore, Davies etc....

Remember, McBride didn't start off with bang with US national team.
