In reflection, I thought he had a typical Guti performance…solid (8s carries in 36 touches and 87% passing), a couple forced shots, couple silly mistakes and half dozen near world class-ish moments. He is at the point where it’s proably time to move on from ‘young Brian’…his ceiling is still very high…a couple of those moments (he’s finding the opportunity) need to begin ‘finishing’ to truly his career. I’m excited for him! Presuming he continues to get meaningful minutes (appears he will) he has the opportunity to take another major career step! if he doesn’t, that’s ok, everyone has a ceiling….but it’s fun to watch when the ceiling has not yet been hard defined.
He probably would have before a guy took him out and got red carded. I would say that still counts as "game changing" to force that action because he was well on his way there.
He may have stayed in the game if he didn’t get the phantom yellow. It was a great performance with the tricky pass while falling my favorite play. The shot over the bar and blocked shots were two missed opportunities though.
The other 'almosts' were his incomplete passes, most were ambitious line breakers! But don't look great when they don't work...and look genius when they do. I liked how hungry he looked.
After Guti's first half I was surprised he wasn't subbed. His 15 second half minutes were much better.
He attempted a through pass while running laterally across the goal that was blocked by the defense. Great vision.
Posting out there saying interest in Guti transfer and that his current club said at least $10 million was the price. Official Fire sale announcement stated there was a sell-on clause in deal. Just a piece of information. Not likely a move happens so soon.
If he 'breaks out' during the WC his chances of another move soon dramatically increase. He had 3 almost in the first game that would have been enough...but they were not lol
I hope he does well, scores an actual (not almost) goal in each of the next two matches and Mexico lose every match 5-1. If he moves on, the Fire will get a cut. That is good.
I still can’t figure out if Poch simply ignored him, or if he asked to be set aside so he could go to Mexico. I 1000% don’t blame Guti if he asked to be set aside but I am 10,000% pist at Poch if Guti wanted to be here.

...and now he gets to sit at home with the rest of Mexico while England move on to the next round. Overall, it was a very good career move for him and good move for the Fire to cash in on him.
