feels like a weird unnecessary move with smith on the bench. i mean, good for the kid but feels like unnecessary pressure on him.

Almost certainly looking at a ban, 5 yellow cards in the first 19 league matches will get him one.

It was never a contest really. We bossed the game, 64% possession, took away Brentford's oxygen.

And lots of strong individual performances, all the way from Saliba to Jesus. Really nice to see the latter's effort not falling off after he was left off the latest Selecao.

Back to the Top! And onward to the NLD. :D

Its curious, in Aussie Rules since the 1960s the youngest debut was in the 1977, was Tim Watson (15y 305d) but that was when you went to school or had a job, trained twice a week and games were on a Saturday arvo.

Now in the AFL you can't get drafted to a club unless its the year you are turning 18. The youngest AFL player is 18y and 208 days.

The other week a 13 year old goal keeper got given a couple of minutes for a smaller club in the Aus equivalent of the FA Cup against an A-League team.

Imagine if we were playing a team right on the bottom rung in the FA Cup and for the last 2 minutes they brought on a 13 yr old.

Kickoff was 9pm in Australia, for once it wasn't an early morning match.

City, Liverpool and United want to sign him, so my assumption is that.

Great performance again. Give Saliba whatever he wants.

Back to the Vieira ratings: Outside of the great goal, I thought he was a capable fill-in for MO8, which is more relief than praise.

What I didn’t like, and where I assume Arteta and staff are working with him, is his movement off the ball. I saw Vieira standing around too much waiting for the pass and not winning the ball in defense as much as MO8.

Top of the league; during the International break it’s time to get everyone healthy for the next two. Win both and Arsenal might actually be in the title race.

In case anyone was wondering if the players remember the Ivan Toney tweet from last year...

It seems like a very unArtetalike move.

I'm not at all worried that Arsenal are going to "Freddy Adu" this kid. But he will have the title of youngest player ever hanging over him, which could be tough if he doesn't pan out or can't avoid injuries.

We'll, s***. I had a fun night last night and slept in this morning, mistakenly thinking kick off was 9. Oh well, that they won is what matters. Highlights and recounting made it sound comprehensive, which is good.

    Onward and upward.

First thought was that it was a smart tactical yellow from Granit, but on the replay from the back end it didn't appear they had any significant numbers ready to counter.

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised but we look very ManCesk in that if you want to finish above is you better beat us home and away because you can't expect us to be dropping points to anyone else.

I like it, I'd like to win both NLD but if we win the league I doubt I'd care if we lost both.

Indeed. Force other teams to play at their best and avoid mistakes. If Arsenal can continue doing a better job of beating the "lesser" teams they'll at the least be solidly in the running for top 4.

Huge difference having Partey in midfield compared to Sambi or Elneny. The backups really hide from the game so much in comparison.

ah, that makes sense. convince him to sign his professional deal.

mcnicholas had a similar if adjacent thought that it was a deliberate message sent to the youth teamers - in light of the hutchinson signing - that, if you do well, you'll get a chance.

it's crazy that he's come in, be the youngest, and seemingly the one the other defenders look towards.

man, i dislike international break in general and this one especially given how close the world cup is . . . but, damn, do i appreciate this extra time to get odegaard and zinchenko healthy, get some treatment on jesus after that end of the game, and put some more time between partey and his injury.

Hopefully we can somehow be strategic about when Jesus earns his 5th yellow.

He’s a superstar and future world class player. You have to look at him. It’s like Rio at Leeds.

Didn't see the game live, because it was kind of early here on Maui. The report sounds promising. The side is playing well. All credit to Arteta, who most of us wanted to hang not too long ago.
Somebody said Jesus didn't get picked for Brazil; can you imagine? I mean he is just on a rampage in the biggest league in the world! I know Brazil has some attacking talent but still...
