He had a clear chance just before he left. He has no left foot. All he had to do was swing at it and it would have cause a problem. He came around the ball and hit it with his right and cause a corner. He did work extremely hard for someone that just played in a forgin country.
If Brenden had Paxten's natural finishing ability he'd be a true force, but he's still an integral part of the clear top EFL team that is Leeds this season.
How could he be so brilliant in Austria yet seemingly flounders in England? Would he have fared far better in a Italy or Spain?
He's not doing badly. Started 8 of 10, plus a cup game. He's a very decent player at this level. He just is not the dominant player at this level that would suggest he will for sure be moving up. But he's still only 23 - my guess is if he stays in England he's a bit of a yo-yo player, but I think he'll get more EPL shots if he stays.
'Leeds United did a job on us' - Chris Wilder's blunt Sheffield United verdict after first loss Chris Wilder paid a huge compliment to Leeds United after seeing his Sheffield United lose 2-0 at Elland Road tonight, labelling the Whites as the "best side they have faced" this season. The Blades' unbeaten start to the season came to a shuddering halt after second half goals from Pascal Struijk and substitute Mateo Joseph. The result saw the Whites leapfrog their South Yorkshire counterparts into the automatic promotion places. Daniel Farke's side are now level on points with table-topping Sunderland. Wilder told Sky Sports: "Beaten by a better side. No doubt about it. We didn't have any answers to them Head and shoulders the best side we have played so far this season; no disrespect to the other teams that we have played. It's a disappointing evening for us but we didn't deserve anything from the game." Sheffield United's Chris Wilder offers honest take of Leeds win “We didn’t deserve anything from the game, disappointed to lose the goals as we did, but they created the bigger, clearer chances than we did. “They found the energy of, obviously, a passionate home support, [it was] a tough experience for us all. They were better in all departments. They won more first balls. They jumped on more second balls. They played quicker, sharper, had the more attacking threat. We had bits and pieces of the game, not enough to trouble them.
I had meant to bring this up after the US games but watching Busio and Aaronson who are similar builds was interesting. When Busio gets fouled and knocked down he gets calls but Aaron rarely does. I think it's because Busio positions himself better. He sticks his but back and when bumped from behind it makes a more dramatic flop. Aaronson is usually very upright when bumped and it just appears he's diving so no call. I'd have to pay more attention but if so it would be a seemingly easy adjustment.
I think 2022-23 seasons ago, Aaronson was among the top 20 fouled players in the EPL, tho. So he does get the calls sometimes. Not sure what his numbers are like this year.
Translation is not linear. He's a guy who's just about the most ill-suited to the Championship style-wise that exists. You sort of allude to it in the following post. He's 91st in the league in fouls drawn. He gets the opposite of benefit of the doubt as a little guy there. HIs teammates, Gnonto, a thick guy who leans into opponents, gets it. He's #1. So dominance should not be the requirement for him, that you may be able to expect from a random option. Regardless if perception may work against him, he's at a club that is likely to get promoted, then he should get shots again in the EPL. It's the only way they're going to get near the value they paid.
Yeah, as I said, I think he'll get more EPL shots. He's got a lot of positives to his game, but across a couple of top league - Leeds/EPL, Union/Bund, Leeds/Champs he's shown he can hang, but perhaps not be "the guy." At that point utility is usually cost and need dependent. I think he'll get EPL or Bund chances. But I'm not sure he locks down a steady spot at a solid midtable side - but it's for sure not impossible.
Not sure exactly what this means. He runs a lot and works hard with not a ton of end product. Seems the definition of a Championship Level player. He’s done ok so far. He doesn’t get stuck in the way some do - but not everyone in the Championship is a bruiser.
As I said, it's their refs' aversion to call fouls, in comparison to the top leagues. In the EPL he was 16th in fouls drawn, would have been around that in the Bundesliga with the same amount of minutes, but in the Championship he's 91st. You can run him over & kill a chance/possession, quite possibly transition the other way. Also, he's terrible on balls in the air, & the Championship is most inclined to that style. Though that's mitigated considering he's on arguably the most stylish team in the league. If opponents more get their way, the game will bypass him, & I've seen that, like v. Boro. However, I don't think a top team in the league is optimal cuz of his strength being quick transition on the ground & given their production expectation. Speaking of which, he's 7th in the league in big chances missed (Sargent's #1 & Wright 12th, though they have more goals). This tendency is going to foster more frustration from the fans over time.
Most fouled Leeds players. All 10 appearances Wilfried Gnonto 27 Junior Firpo 18 Jayden Bogle 13 Ethan Ampadu 11 Mateo Joseph 10 Brenden Aaronson 10
Gnoto is a beat. Really surprised he did a season in Enfer, but he's going to have a good career in the EPL, whether with Leeds of someone else.
Its an EFL game. Paramount+ only has the Coventry game available, probably because of Champions League coverage
Thanks. I don’t know why CL would hinder P+ showing all live games when they occur. Granted, I’m not a techie, so maybe it’s a technical issue
Aaronson's goal made it 2-0 and that goal stood up: Leeds 2-1 Watford. Leeds for the moment is tied atop the table, though their closest competitors all have a game in hand.
