His 2 starts are perfect examples of goals (against too) & outcomes change narratives. Last start, I thought he was pretty good. Did OK in physical battles, while escaping pressure, & finding the hit ahead. But because none result in goals & they had no defensive midfield he was a victim of guilt by association. As for yesterday, he scores, & they win by 2, so all's well in the paradise that is West Yorkshire. But he got dominated in duals for the first time in the Championship because the ref was swallowing his whistle & he just wasn't reading the game well on either end. The most frustrating moment was taking an extra touch and a beat to kill what would have been a 1 v. 1 break. If he can play like he had in the games before today, while finishing his limited chance(s) like he just did too, he'll have a successful season.
This was such an enjoyable read I had to share: https://www.thesquareball.net/leeds-united/brenden-aaronson-could-still-be-my-american-boy/
Really enjoyed The Square Ball blog and youtube channel the first time around. Since then they have lost my favorite pundit/writer (Moscow White) and have been far less charitable towards Brenden than I felt warranted, but willing to let them pursue the same redemption arc that they are so "graciously" allowing our little Brenden! Btw, anyone have any more confirmed details on the appendix issue Brenden had just prior to the World Cup?
My favorite part of the article was this: "Has the Red Bull logo triggered something deep in Aaronson, like a sleeper agent activated by a codeword?" LOLOLOLOLOL! Well, if that's what it takes for "Brendy" to succeed (at Leeds or anywhere else), may he always play for Red Bull as a sponsor!
when Marsch seemed to prefer providing the motivational rhetoric normally reserved for pyramid scheme marketers, and his replacements spent the entire time firefighting. Ouch
Funnily enough that motivational rhetoric is common in rugby league, widely played and well supported in Yorkshire, where coaches will use NFL videos to learn coaching and motivational techniques.
Not on the scoresheet but a very solid performance today. Went the full 90+ and getting lots of appreciation for his play on fan sites.
🏆 Congrats to Brenden Aaronson, who has been voted by fans to be our JD Sports Player of the Month for August— Leeds United (@LUFC) September 13, 2024
Aaronson has looked good this half. He’s had a couple of beautiful passes slipped into the box that should / could have been scored by his teammates. The first took a very good save from the GK and the second took a last ditch tackle from a Burnley defender. Leeds have had a lot of the ball but Burnley has sliced and fixed them on the counter.
I could not hate refs in the Championship more, and today they had one of the worst. You practically had to murder a guy to have a foul called, then he'd randomly give a soft one. The style is still so bad for Aaronson. Opponents know they can run thru him eventually, so he has to be able to get the ball off his foot immediately if any defender is around him. He managed to do some good things. Should have yielded a goal or two for what he could control. But I will say I hate him still fading his runs into the opponent. Hopefully Poch will get thru to him.
I can't find Leeds game on Paramount streaming. Anybody know if it is showing someplace else live? Edit: Never mind, it's on Golazo (?)
I couldn't find Middlesbrough game at all (Aiden Morris?). Maybe it was on Golazo as well. I don't know. It just seems to have gone down a black hole.
They didn't put the Leeds replay up for some reason. Maybe because it was Golazo (live)? However... They did put up the Boro replay. They're always on the EFL page, not usually on the main one. https://www.paramountplus.com/shows/english-football-league/ https://www.paramountplus.com/shows/video/zFyCxo_aanH0OXK5P8jBXtRE2A6_fihj/
