Mainz also just took the lead, so that result is probably not going to go Union's way.

Which means Union need to hold onto this lead and Bochum have to continue to trail (1-0) against Werder Bremen for Union to secure safety today.

Yeah, plenty of time for this to fall apart in various ways, but they are up as of this moment...

Frieburg losing their cool a bit, led by their coach who looks headed for an Allegri...

Love the energy of a game of consequence on the last match day. Always something special about last match day fixtures.

The assist came from really nice tight dribbling from BA by the way. Very pretty.

Aaronson wilth some more good work to spring a counter - rewarded by being subbed out.

BA coming off again, for some reason. If UB don't pull this one out, shoot their manager into the sun.

80 min mark. Union got to really wish they had the PK goal to pad this.

Good news in the Bochum game as Werder Bremen go up 2-0 against them. Looking more and more like Union just need to hold on now to secure safety.

Edit: and now make that 3-0.

Solid game by Aaronson today. Wish he could play like this more consistently.

And the football gods punish Union again for subbing out one of their best players. They've won all his minutes the last few games. Their manager(s) never learn.

Freiburg tie it at the end, which is bad for Union who must play the releg playoff now, and useless for them because they can't catch Hoffenheim for a Confederations spot.

Union somewhat rightly upset about non-call before the Freiburg break, but thems the breaks.

Doan just charged the cross harder. Very good header.

It would be a player trying to draw a foul in a critical spot and then a quick counter that would be the undoing. Then Penalty

2nd times a charm. Misses the shot, hits the rebound.

    Bochum down 4-1 now.

In the end, reminds me a lot of Leeds. Union look ALWAYS capable of giving up a goal even when they absolutely can't afford to lol

Freiburg trying to get the draw just because, they're not playing for anything at this point.

Just to clarify: Union were awarded an injury time penalty, their 2nd of the afternoon. And they went and missed again, but Union scored on the rebound.

And Union stay up. Good for them - fun game. BA had a nice contribution. That goal and his dribble will hit a few highlights.

The current manager had them playing really well in the first half, especially. The spacing was good and Brenden played a bit the role he played at Salzburg. They kept him fairly high. They were more disorganized when brenden came off for a defender type. To me it seemed they had less defense when Brenden came off, notwithstanding they had more players back, supposedly. Fotmob shows them losing momentum as soon as Brenden comes off at 80' and Freiburg score at 85'.

Brenden was fotmob motm.for Union - the keeper for Freiburg got it overall (he had 2 pk saves.)
