Yeah, Weah’s in that set as well. Gozo is a bit different in that you’d never play him at RB proper — while the other three have all played that extensively and two are simply RBs, period. I love Tim — but Gozo’s finishing is miles ahead of him already. In an offensive capacity, I find it hard to believe that Gozo isn’t a better offensive player by 2030, and he probably is already.
If we were only looking on offense, I’d take Gozo right now over Weah, and I’m not sure it’s all that close. Weah’s always been a sort of grip it and rip it type, to steal something from golf. Gozo is a plus finisher. Weah’s got a wider range of skills, I think, and far more defense, but Gozo is made to score.
Tim Weah is a very good player and I think he's been undervalued and underrated by many (evidence: the dearth of discussions about him in any BS forum for the last few years). I have no opinion on Gozo's finishing vs Weah's, but I do think Weah is a good finisher (and he's got a very strong shot with beautiful technique). Regardless of that comparison, I just can't see the USMNT coaching staff making a decision to include Gozo on the roster AS OPPOSED TO Weah. It would be in place of someone else (even though he and Weah occupy a similar position). Weah is a very experienced professional. And, gogorath, you know how I value experience.
He spent a ton of time after the game in the center of the field chatting with Sullivan. Even while the rest of the OC team was celebrating with the supporters. Not that we couldn’t lose him, but I think he has connections with other USA youth NATs
I agree with the vast majority of this. I don’t think Poch would take Gozo over Weah, and he shouldn’t. As much as Gozo might be a better bet to take a guy one on one and score, or wreak havoc as a late game speed demon, Weah is more versatile, a far better defender and has experience that Gozo doesn’t. I’m there with you. I have a big proponent of Weah in our offense for years because he’s one of our few vertical players and can play somewhat wide. But that said, he is a “hit it hard” finisher. Sometimes it goes where they ain’t; sometimes it goes right at the keeper. Gozo, on the other hand … he’s absolutely both capable of blasting it, of placing it, and of doing both at the same time. His percentages aren’t as good as just watching highlights would tell you, but I’d be far more confident of him scoring versus Weah if they both had the same shot.
Oh I’m not saying he’s at risk or anything. But with any dual national who is good and has another good option you always have to be on the ball.
Dual-nationals is like a never-ending battle of spinning plates in the air. You solidify a couple on one side, and others start wobbling over there. Almost all of our top U23 prospects that aren't cap-tied are dual nationals. Mathis Albert, Cavan Sullivan, Diego Kochen, Julian Hall, Zavier Gozo, Niko Tsakiris, Julian Hall, Adri Mehmeti, Luca Bombino, Taha Haboune, Jusin Ellis, Gerardo Valenzuela, Pedro Soma, Neil Pierre, Aiden Hezarkhani, and on and on and on. Some of those are wobbling at different rates than others. Like when we think of a projected Olympics squad, we forget about Ben Cremaschi, Cole Campbell, Damion Downs, etc. etc. Guys getting into games this season in Serie A and the Bundesliga. Noahkai Banks is still in the equation hopefully. We can't even offer an Olympic opportunity to all the young guys. We're going to lose guys like we just lost Keyrol Figueroa. You can't keep ALL of the plates spinning. Peyton Miller? Nolan Norris? There are guys who aren't dual-nationals. That's the shorter list, though. [What's amazing to me right now is the extent of the breakouts in MLS. The breakouts we wanted to happen this year in Europe just haven't happened. Almost at all. Great examples are the CBs Josh Wynder and Matai Akinmboni. We don't talk about Wynder AT ALL. We talk about our young fullback prospects and forget that 21 year old Caleb Wiley even exists.]
The US isn't the only country that loses out on promising players: 🚨 A young talent from La Masia has decided to play for Honduras instead of opting to play for Spain.· Jose Alfredo Rodriguez, who was born in Catalunya, has Honduran parents.· He currently plays in Barcelona's U16 team and although he's been called up by the Spain youth… pic.twitter.com/682zCSj4Jy— The Touchline | 𝐓 (@TouchlineX) May 15, 2026
Cremanschi, Campbell, Downs are MLS level players. We should be smart and concentrate on the right kids. Esmir was a major loss. Mathis, Sullivan, Kochen should be taken care of. Gozo as well. If Hall decides to play for Poland it will be stupid beyound believe and we wouldn't need that. Mehmeti we'll probably lose anyway, but he worth the efforts. Uruguay won't grab Ellis, he is ours. The rest of the kids might become marginal NT players or not. Nothing to worry about.
If Adri’s other option were Mexico or Italy I’d share your pessimism but I think we have a decent chance of coaxing him away from Albania.
On the youth boards, folks that are more "insiders" than me say the exact opposite. That he went to an Albania camp and didn't like it..................................... I always remember the story of an FCD kid going to a Mexico camp, getting off the airport in Mexico City, and realizing he didn't belong there. There's A LOT that goes on behind the scenes with dual nationals that we don't see. Do people think the USSF/USMNT/USYNT staffs aren't in communication with these players?
This is funny being that Crema got injured starting a Seria A game. The same year he won the U20 Golden Boot as a CM. I know it’s all about what have you done lately but this feels extreme.
Maybe @butters59 is one of those guys who likes to come in here and pretend he knows more than all of us.
Yes, I am. I also don't buy a hype of Argentiana hunting for any of our good, but not supertalented kids. Btw I didn't mention Tsakiris whom I rate much higher than Cremansci.
Just watched an interview with Julian and Adrian together on the MLS preview show. I have a hard time believing we’ll lose either of those guys if the program wants them. You’d have to search for quite a while to find two more American kids than that.
GotDAMN I am one handsome ************************! Why would you do that? What do you get out of it?
Cavan Sullivan has had two very good games back to back now. Started and went the distance tonight in a 1-1 draw against Columbus.

Like, our top 8 prospects 16 to 19 or so are all dual nationals. So strap in for the next few years. Banks, Cavan, Gozo, Albert, Mehmeti, Hall, Kochen, Jakupovic.
