I was confused because there's only one MLS team in the Carolina's and their D3 team is Crown Legacy... I forgot there was already an independent team in the league

Schedule for the CONCACAF U17 Championships is out.
Due to the expanded U17 World Cup field, and a changing of the format for the qualifiers.........................this is cupcake city.

February is a good time for player releases, so we should be at pretty good strength for the event. Maybe somebody like Mathis Albert won't be released. Either way with competition like this we should be set with the domestic Cavan Sullivan, Maxi Carrizo, etc. crew.

Looks like we're about to go youth camp crazy in November. I don't know why we'd need U23s right now, but whatever.

I assume the U23s won’t start up till at least the current U20 cycle is over as they would be prep for the 2028 Olympics which is most of the current U20 players.

Indeed. Without Olympic qualifying, there's no point getting a U23 team together four years out anyway.

I suspect when we get closer, plenty of teams will want to set up friendlies with us on the U23 level.

Well, the predictable happened last night.
Philadelphia II and North Texas (aka FCD) won the conference finals and will play in the MLNP final. Philly beat Columbus 4-0 and North Texas beat SLCII 3-0. It'll be a great final.

Philly has the higher ceiling prospects that are of more interest to USMNT fans.
But North Texas is the more mature and older team in some key positions. Almost a USL Championship style roster. Very strong defensively. They literally had two senior internationals on their backline last night. They're from Caribbean nations, but it's true nonetheless. Sainte of Haiti and Gordon of Montserrat. Gordon formerly played for Birmingham City in the Championship.

Some of the Philly goals are above. Here's the opener from North Texas from academy graduate Anthony Ramirez. He's played for both Mexico and the US at youth levels, but has been with Mexico more recently. They got another goal from dual-national academy graduate Malik Henry-Scott. He's been called up by Jamaica most recently I believe.

Did Norris play? He's the captain of the U20's right? He can play several positions and has looked good the fe minutes he got at FCD. Is he not a big time prospect? He's seems the first possible one from FCD since Tessmann and Reynolds left.

Norris started in central midfield with another USYNTer, Diego Garcia. Diego isn't an academy graduate, but a kid they nabbed from El Paso Locomotive.

I think the question with Norris is just where he fits with the FCD first team.
Is he athletic enough to be a CM at the MLS level (or above)?

He's also played CB and LB for North Texas.

I actually think there are a bunch of players on this North Texas team that could be signed by FCD. They're just not the high-end ones of Philly. My gut tells me Anthony Ramirez will be signed to a HG deal, for instance.

We're starting to see some rosters come out for the upcoming November windows. We're reportedly calling in most age groups.

U16 roster to face Mexico according to the twitterverse. These are 09s. We've had some players get "promoted" from this team that are likely with the U17s. Like say Mathis Albert, who is an 09.

KK Spivey of the Earthquakes is probably the most well known prospect amongst this group.

[Mexico roster has been announced and it has two US-eligibles. Chelo Avalos of Philadelphia and Da'vian Kimbrough of Sacramento.]

GK: James Donaldson (Atlanta United), Tobias Szewczyk (RBNY)

DF: Eddie Chadwick (LAG), Daniel Barrett (Houston Dynamo), Prince Forfor (Columbus Crew), Liam Vejrostek (FC Dallas), Tyson Espy (LAFC), Hugo Berg (Chicago Fire)

MF: Xander Newstead (Ajax), KK Spivey (San Jose Earthquakes), Caleb Trombino (Orlando City), Roko Pehar (Chicago Fire), Lukas Bruegmann (Houston Dynamo)

FW: Zidane Cadet (Inter Miami), Aaron Medina (LAG), Will Ostrander (San Jose Earthquakes), Willyam Ferreira (Philadelphia Union) Paul Sokoloff (RBNY), Mattheo Dimareli (Houston Dynamo), Omar Hassan (Seattle Sounders)

U20 roster is stacked too. We're missing some key guys from this group. Still very strong. We do have some good defensive prospects in this age group. Just may take a bit before they're ready for the senior team.

There's also a U19 camp in this window. Lots of good prospects there that will presumably push that U20 group above. Guys like Berchimas and Medina, who were on the U20 CONCACAF Championships team............seem to have been moved back to this group. There are also players who aren't on either team. Frankie Westfield of Philadelphia? Noah Cobb of Atlanta? Marcos Zambrano of Vitoria Guimaraes? Luca Bombino of LAFC? Sergio Oregel of Chicago? Duran Ferree?

[So far, we've seen announcements for U16, U17, U19, and U20 camps in this window. No U18 yet.]

North Texas (aka FC Dallas) won the MLSNP title last night with a 3-2 victory over Philly II.

As I said in this thread, these were two very different teams. North Texas was a more mature team. More 20-somethings on first team contracts and being evaluated for first team roles. Draft picks and such. The winning goal is indicative of that. Draft pick Herbert Endeley (a forward they're converting to a fullback) to Tomas Pondeca (a former trialist from a local high school, who spent a lot of time with USA futsal) to Pedrinho (a young Brazilian winger they signed from Flamengo). Pedrinho's father is former Brazilian international Beto, for those keeping track.

I mean, North Texas also uses US youth internationals. Their starting midfield was Nolan Norris and Diego Garcia. Norris is with the U20s in this window, and Garcia is with the U19s.

They just didn't have as many HIGH PROFILE USYNTers as Philly II.

I only stayed for the first half as I knew from watching Celtic Pride that I might have been the bad luck guy in the first half. I didn't know many players but was really impressed with Norris. He controlled every pass, made some quick dribbles to keep possession and was accurate on passing. I tried to keep on eye on Cavan but he never got the ball much but was solid in decisions and execution. I also thought to myself that either team would have beaten "96 Dallas Burn. Both teams played at a much higher level than early MLS.
