Absolutely agree for the most part. However there are definitely times when some senior players have just very clearly and obviously not worked hard. Rashford being the clearest example of this at times last few games. For someone being paid a small fortune and wearing our shirt, seeing the manager catch all the flack (albeit deservedly for his part) and specific players just escape makes me mad. More so last game maybe as Rashford is getting all this sympathy for being taken off at half time when for sure he was a big part of us scoring the first two. However he then can't be arsed to track his man which gives them one back and then also doesn't properly mark anyone to stop the cross for the second. That for me isn't down to coaching (especially for a player who is 27 in a few weeks), it is just very clear and obvious laziness in doing a very obvious defensive role that he knows. Same thing we saw from him under Rangnick. Another analysis video. This time from Statman Dave. Interesting in that it notes some things that Erik did in his first successful year that he no longer seems to by doing. Specifically he seems to be a lot more dogmatic and less flexible with both his tactics and in-game switches this season (so far).
Actually on the Rashford thing should probably have posted this which I saw earlier as it shows his heatmap and how he really didn't help despite the oppo having the vast majority of their attacks down his side. Not a surprise to me that Dalot and Martinez rated so poorly and so mistake and position error prone this game. One part of the machine breaks down and doesn't do its job, the adjacent parts break down too.
think a better question is why he continually persists with Rashford. regardless of form or behaviour still hoping for a repeat of the first season?
What is weird was SAF, Sir Ratcliffe and other directors present at the Villa game. Eyes on him for real. Incidentally, he benched his summer signings, all of them. That was weird.

He is super lucky to be still the manager. I wonder how long he can last at the club after such results.
Ten Hag keeping his job while sitting 14th in the Premier League with a goal difference of -3 is crazy man.— TheEuropeanLad (@TheEuropeanLad) October 6, 2024 Ten hag seems to be unsackable
Think we all know that much of this guff is bs. Man Utd is owned by a millionaires kids with another millionaire currently in charge of football matters. That millionaire (SJR) will make the call. For sure he will listen to his underlings but he will get his way (whatever he is minded too).
Good writeup on potential managerial candidates should ETH be let go: Analysing Manchester United manager alternatives to Erik ten Hag: Hoeness, Van Nistelrooy, Tuchel and more - The Athletic (nytimes.com) For me Hoeness looks like someone to definitely look at: Beyond Xabi Alonso’s invincible Bayer Leverkusen, Stuttgart were the Bundesliga’s overachievers after Sebastian Hoeness led them to a second-place finish above Bayern Munich. Having been appointed at the end of the 2022-23 season, the 41-year-old guided Stuttgart away from the relegation zone and into this year’s Champions League within 18 months. From a low-possession, counter-attacking team last campaign, Hoeness has transformed Stuttgart into a dominant, progressive side that can suffocate teams in their own defensive third (Field tilt, 86 out of 99) and press from the front (Intensity, 78 out of 99). Only Alonso’s Leverkusen (73) generated more shot-ending high turnovers than Stuttgart (61) last season, as Hoeness had a tangible impact on Stuttgart’s style across the board.

Feels like end days, said end of Sep that would be done November international break (in a few weeks time) and am sticking with that. We will be left with a lot of the same issues, particularly the lack of goals in the (mostly) young attackers in this squad. I like that we are trying to press high and EtH has setup the team to play that way, however I think he has failed on the man-management side to fully motivate some of these players. Some of them have questionable self-motivation, discipline, workrate and heart cough Rashford cough though. Most important is that we get a high-pressing manager replacement and not some trash like Southgate or Potter. Probably only available in the summer, so will need an interim.
I still feel that Ruud was brought in as a “potential” caretaker and the possible replacement who would be given the time and INEOS support.
Gone - didnt make it to November. Looks like Ruud will be an interim. https://www.manutd.com/en/news/detail/man-utd-official-club-statement-on-erik-ten-hag-28-oct Man Utd sack manager Ten Hag https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/cpvznn4v01yo 🚨 EXCLUSIVE: Manchester United are discussing internally to sack Erik ten Hag with immediate effect!Understand Ruud van Nistelrooy would stay as interim manager if all goes to plan in internal talks. pic.twitter.com/GXwTAHmGcb— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) October 28, 2024
GG. thanks for the cups Erik. those were good days out. not a surprise. he couldn't solve the long running problem of not playing well for whatever reason. over multiple seasons. he was out of excuses now that this is his squad. if he can't motivate his own players and get a tune out of them... well it wasn't going to last. he's not a bad coach though. just not right for United. he'll be fine. especially if people continue to be generous with excusing him
He was on the doomed Mission because he wasn't the guy that the new management team brought in. So he was on a shorter leash with more expectation. He will go home, lick his wounds. I expect to hear of him again doing well in Bundi..
Elated. Hopefully we can execute something within the abilities of the players we have, AND it’s entertaining. On to the next.
You’re an apologist. It was his third year, with mostly players he picked, hundreds of millions spent, two preseasons, no consistency, and no real progression in tactics, style, or formation. He was lucky to keep his job in the summer. The only positive thing I’ll say is, I hope whatever youth level changes that were made, including style and tactics, remain in our academy. Beyond that, it was past time for him to ******** off.
^ Sounds like SAF in his first few years at United. Ten Hag should do well if he goes to a properly run club. We are a mess of a club. He should have been let go in the summer. The FA cup win changed that obvs, but that was the right time and now we signed a bunch of players we will likely have to sell next few windows. Stupid.
Thanks for trying ETH but it was time to go. I really don't know what he had them working on in training because there hasn't been any progression in terms of identity or patterns of play on the pitch.
For the best at this stage. He had to go really. 14th place and almost November in your third season is garbage. Long term, God knows what we do now. I just want some hope again. Truly.
