Fab says agreement with EtH is very nearly done (final meetings today/tomorrow). Says contract includes changes to support team and that Ruud will "be EtH assistant". So presumably either a demotion or exit for van der Gaag. For sure, Ruud needs the proper number 2 job, but other end of the scale also dont want to go the Liverpool two-manager Evans / Houllier route either
I thought the extension was bluff but ETH will have more command on dressing room and Ruud was joining as assistant why comparing with evans-houllier ?
Ruud did a good job as manager at PSV before he decided to leave and has also has a job offer to manage Burnley. So being an assistant is a bit beneath him given he is fairly young and on the rise tbh. The Liverpool two-manager situation came about because the board were too afraid of upsetting the fans by firing Evans but wanted their own man in Houllier. Not saying this is the same, just saying we dont want it to head that way - as there can only be one boss.
As expected, no news on his staff yet ... Ten Hag signs new Manchester United deal until 2026 https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/cd17d871gj9o Needed to be done I guess so players we are trying to recruit know for sure who will be managing them. Is just a year extension over what he had which makes more sense to me given Ineos clearly has reservations as most likely does Erik about them - so both can see how things pan out.
Some places reporting that this is a year extension to his existing terms and not the new terms that Ineos wanted. So looks like Erik dug in on the reported issues such as having a say on club recruitment and being called manager rather than head coach etc. which they wanted to alter in his contract.

We have a new set-piece coach - Andreas Georgson. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/czd9l1q27z7o United confirmed another addition to their coaching team in former Lillestrom and Malmo boss Andreas Georgson. The 42-year-old previously worked in England at Brentford, Arsenal and Southampton and joins former United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy and ex-Go Ahead Eagles coach Rene Hake in a much-changed backroom unit. "We did a review of the staff and did some profiling for what we want to fill in," Ten Hag said. "He will do his work in areas such as individual development, winning culture and set-piece."
Much like Ole miraculously beating PSG leading to a full-time contract, winning the FA Cup was the worst thing to have happened recently. Silverware is nice and all that but it guaranteed ETH wouldn't be fired after last season. Now we're left with the same old crap, just with some new players. No plan, zero cohesion. As I asked last year, what do they work on in training? There don't seem to be any tactics drilled into the players. I just don't get it.
Sounds like ETH will remain in charge for at least Porto and Villa before the international break. Makes some sense. Don’t do well on those games then allows time to pivot. Assuming they would give it to Ruud on an interim basis. Did anyone watch PSV when he was in charge? What was their style of play and tactics? EDIT: I did find this which may have some use when he was being voiced for the Leicester job https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/...uud-van-nistelrooy-leicester-city-9315396.amp
Let's see how it pans out for him, I think sacking should be in Nov intl break. Enough time for hindsight fellas.
Given up on him. At this point, how could you not? A few new signigns arent enough to reset the progress he may have thought he was making. I held onto some hope because the initial signs this seson looked promising, but its all gone now. Year 3? You get a short leash
Kinda feel the same. The Spurs game was a real turning point for me as that was back to the chaos of huge shots and xG against that we saw last season when there was some excuse of injuries etc. EtH tactics were just clearly plain wrong for Spurs and there was no in-game management to correct. The Porto game following on from the Twente capitulation where the players just didn't seem to want it adds to that too. All the player issues will remain though. Plus have low confidence in Ineos making the right call from the small pool of available managers. I love Ruud but his management cv is very lightweight, but if the alternative is Southgate or Potter then Ruud as an interim is far preferable to those particular wrong turns.
The Inzaghi rumours seem a combination of odd, intriguing and just plain weird. I don't even know what to make of him as a manager.
