Well, It was a little tough to follow what with the WUSA gameticker went down around the 65th minute, but a great result and 6 points from 3 away matches.Let's hope Atlanta was an aberation.Great win though.Starting the season positively is so important.

Breakers Defeat Carolina, 3-1

Sounds like Carolina has some serious 'keeper issues with (un)Lucky on the shelf for awhile.

Boston garnered only 5 points on the road all last season. To start 2003 they come in with 6 out of 9 possible. Let's hope they keep the home string going to match their newfound road success.

On a down note, it's tough to see another late goal given away. To allow a goal less than 60 seconds after scoring is a mental let-down.Something to work on.

First minutes of the year for rookie Erin O'Grady coming on to replace Maren Meinert after her knee got tweaked. Good for Erin to make the travel squad.

O'Grady finds a new home

The name Erin O'Grady should sound fairly familiar to soccer folks around these parts.

The former Syracuse standout manned the forward position for the Boston Renegades the past two seasons. With O'Grady, the 'Gades won two straight W-League national championships. Still, her soccer career wasn't complete.

"All I ever wanted to do once the WUSA came around was be a part of it," she said. "At the end of every year I thought about trying out."

This year, O'Grady finally landed on the Boston Breakers reserve roster.

"This is much more fun than I ever imagined it would be," she said. "At first I wanted to make the team. Now, I want to make an impact in the game."

Unfortunately, O'Grady has been slowed by a quadriceps pull for the better part of the early going. When times get tough, though, she can call up a familiar voice that remains nearby.

"What's great about playing in Boston is that I still get to talk with some of the people I met with the Renegades," O'Grady said. "I touch base with (former coach) Peter Bradley about once a week. It's the perfect situation." ...

O'Grady isn't the only former Renegade to recently find her way onto a reserve roster.

After being waived by the Breakers a little over a month ago, Alexa Borisjuk -- who teamed up with O'Grady in 2001, is on the reserve roster with the Philadelphia Charge. Borisjuk was the Breakers' third-round selection in the 2002 WUSA Draft, but was waived during the offseason. ...

According to general manager Joe Cummings, the Breakers are close to signing a new lease to keep playing at Boston University. The franchise's original three-year deal expires at the end of the 2003 season, but Cummings can't imagine playing elsewhere.

"I can't believe we almost ended up at another venue," he said. "Everything with BU has worked out wonderfully and we want to keep this partnership going."

While interviewing Pia this afternoon she said that Jena made only one mistake all afternoon. Prinz made her pay for it by scoring Carolina's only goal.
