Breakers Look to Keep Streak Alive

Boston puts 12-game home-unbeaten streak on line Saturday vs. San Diego in
the second WUSA/MLS doubleheader at Gillette Stadium.

NEEDHAM, MA (April 29, 2003) - The Boston Breakers are preparing for the
second WUSA/MLS doubleheader to take place at Gillette Stadium on Saturday,
May 3rd. The Breakers are riding a 12-game home-unbeaten streak. The streak
goes on the line when Boston takes the field against San Diego on Saturday
(6:30 p.m.) after the New England Revolution/San Jose Earthquakes match at
Gillette Stadium (4 p.m.).

Boston is now 3-1-0 with nine points and standing alone in second place in
the WUSA. San Diego is 2-1-0 with six points, good for fourth place. Both
teams have won two straight matches.

Last Week vs. Philadelphia (3-3-1 overall): Breakers co-captain Maren
Meinert scored two goals in Boston's 3-1 win over Philadelphia. She has four
goals in four games. Rookie Devvyn Hawkins scored her first WUSA goal off a
cross from Dagny Mellgren. Hawkins goal ended up being the game-winner.

"The team did a good job,'' said Breakers coach Pia Sundhage. "We stayed
organized on the defensive end and behind the ball is most important for us.
I think we did a great job with that.''

Game Notes: With this victory the Breakers have reached three victories
quicker than in 2001 and 2002. In the Inaugural season, Boston won its third
game on June 16th (1-0 over Washington). Last season, the Breakers defeated
New York, 5-2, on June 16th. Boston was 1-2-1 after four games in 2002 ...
Maren Meinert finished second in the voting for Player of the Week to New
York's Tiffeny Milbrett ... Rookie Erin O'Grady entered the game at the
start of the half. The Connecticut native has played in two games this
season ... Marcia Wallis, another Breakers rookie, came in for Dagny
Mellgren with six minutes to play. That was her second appearance this
season ... Stéphanie Mugneret-Beghe earned her first WUSA point on Meinert's
second goal.

Breakers vs. San Diego: These two teams battled in the season opener on
April 5th in San Diego. Boston escaped with a 2-1 victory behind goals by
Maren Meinert and Dagny Mellgren. The Breakers will need to keep an eye on
the explosive Spirit forward Shannon MacMillan, who scored four goals in the
U.S. National team match vs. Canada last Saturday.

Key Matchup: Breakers defender Heather Aldama will have the task of chasing
down Spirit forward Shannon MacMillan. Aldama has adjusted well to the
Breakers new defensive strategy and will be expected to keep an eye on the
powerful MacMillan.

Game Notes: Karina LeBlanc and Jena Kluegel are the only two Breakers to
play every minute of all four games ... At this point last season, Maren
Meinert had three goals and two assists ... In the WUSA/MLS doubleheader
last season Boston tied Washington, 0-0. The Breakers took 24 shots and the
Freedom goalkeeper Siri Mullinix made 13 saves ... Kristine Lilly missed a
PK in last years match at Gillette.
