    My first thought

was solid... which may be interpreted as tough.

Her game on 29 June at Boston was fabulous..... just steady... steady..... and strong..... and consistent... just always there......

And 2nd thought was that her teaming with Sobs will be unbelievable...... wow!

The picks sound good. And getting Borgmann is a plus.

I have always loved Keri, but I know that the east coast life was getting tough. She was underappreciated here on the field, too. Best of luck to her in San Jose (except when she plays Boston. :) ).

Adding Hawkins may allow Hucles into a greater attacking role.

And Boston still has an unused foreign slot. Let's hope for an international defender so that Kluegel can be moved to midfield (and some are thinking "off-field" ;) ).

Congratulations to Boston on their draft! I'm sure that Pia will be able to craft (at the least) a solid defense from those picks and the hold-over back line players. The Breakers have certainly improved themselves the most...

I'm cautiously optimistic...OK, ok I'm really excited about the draft picks/trade/foreign signing! BUT...had my heart ripped out the past 2 years with a team that looked great on paper in February...damn, lets get the season going!

Looks like there will be some serious competiton for starting positions...and some depth...did I say this last year too?

    Pia

I truly believe this woman is going to make all of the world of a change and difference for the better.

Truth be told- never spoken here before- when the Breakers announced Jay Hoffman as their head coach, I cringed. Don't get me wrong... the technicalities/merits weren't my rationale.

Rather it was one of those gut feelings....that he just wasn't the right person for the job.

I'm not putting this all on Pia, but I feel a lot more calm and sense success... she has a different understanding, a different mentality; one that I truly can bring success to the Breakers.

    Well said Poet...
I feel the same way, just didn't know how to say it without being bashed for Jay-bashing.
I like the draft...the trade...and hope that Pia's signing goes down as a great move!

Can you folks help out a visiting Rev fan?

I have a couple of questions:

    1) I was pleased to see Breakers acquire Hawkins. This is partly a result of my ignorance - she is one of the relatively few players I've seen enough to have some confidence in (as opposed to Orlando, for example). Partly, though, it's because Steve Nicol has changed my ideas about attacking possibilities with two "defensive" midfielders. Do others see Hawkins playing alongside Hucles?

    2) Is the acquisition of Borgman enough to shore up the defense, or should we look for more wheeling and dealing?

    3) Finally, what should we look for in terms of the possible starting line-up/bench?

No, go ahead and say what you feel. I'll not pop up and bash.

It's a new season, clean slate for all, good things will happen. Let's focus on the promise of the future, not the past.

2003 will be a good year.

Re: Can you folks help out a visiting Rev fan?

I'll deflect back to Joe Cummings's comments when he was interviewed on the live audiocast of the draft.....

This is by no means a direct quotation, but a summary.

    * You take a look at the 4-6 players that you were able to draft, and then see what works... who fits where, and possibly who you can trade. It's a matter of getting the players and then evaluating them....

He did mention that more deals were "likely" - I believe that is the word he used.

I think BOS drafted well, plus getting Borgman. BOS always seem to draft well, & hopefully with the new regime, will not underachieve. Pia did wonders with PHL's no-name defense. By not drafting Orlandos, Pia probably saw a lot of potential with the defensive incumbents.
