First the bad news from the the Globe's SportView
Bummer. I guess we'll have to depend upon the Spirit forum for a PBP thread.

From the Herald: Breakers rarin' to go

For Worcester Telegram subscribers: Breakers "D' needs to rest less in 2003

    Fawcett out for San Diego

This is a tough game to miss. The battle in midfield will be ferocious. Foudy and Wagner vs. Lilly, Hucles, Mugneret-Beghe, and Meinert.

Will Allie Sully get any playing time for the Spirit?

Breakers Open 2003 Season in San Diego

Boston Breakers Kristine Lilly attempts to continue a 10-game point-scoring streak on Saturday, April 5 against the San Diego Spirit at Torero Stadium.

NEEDHAM, MA (April 4, 2003) - The Boston Breakers are set to open up on the road again. The Breakers are in San Diego and will play the Spirit on Saturday, April 5th at Torero Stadium (9 p.m. ET). It is the third straight season Boston has opened up on the road. The Breakers will travel three straight weekends before returning to Nickerson Field for the home opener on Saturday, April 26 against Philadelphia (7 p.m.). Boston was undefeated at home in 2002 with a 5-0-5 record.
The Breakers open the season with six new players - midfielder Devvyn Hawkins, forward Marcia Wallis, defender Kelly Worden, midfielder Sarah Popper, midfielder Erin O'Grady and French midfielder Stéphanie Mugneret-Beghe. Hawkins, Wallis, Popper and Mugneret-Beghe are all on the active roster. O'Grady and Worden are reserve players. The Breakers currently have one developmental position available.
Breakers vs. The Spirit: The Breakers are 1-4-1 all-time versus San Diego. Boston is 0-3-0 in three all-time visits to Torero Stadium, losing their only meeting against the Spirit last season, 5-4. The Breakers only success against San Diego was on July 10, 2002 in a 3-2 victory.

Boston's "Big 3" has had some success against San Diego - Kristine Lilly and Maren Meinert have each compiled two goals and four assists in five games, while Dagny Mellgren has three goals in six games. Starting goalkeeper Karina LeBlanc will face San Diego for only the third time in her career. She has a 3.05 GAA against the Spirit.

Surviving Streaks: Breakers midfielder Kristine Lilly has a 10-game scoring streak still alive from the 2002 season. The streak began on June 22 when the Breakers captain notched three assists in a 5-2 in over New York. In the final three matches of the 2002 season, Lilly had one goal and three assists. She finished the season with eight goals and 13 assists. She is currently the all-time leader in assists with 25.

The team finished the season with two consecutive victories. The only other time the Breakers won two games in a row as in 2001 when they defeated Washington on July 29 and followed that up with a victory over Atlanta on Aug. 1st.

    Probable Breakers Lineup:
    Goalkeeper - Karina LeBlanc
Defense - Jena Kluegel, Kate Sobrero, Monica Gonzalez, Heather Aldama
Midfield - Stéphanie Mugneret-Beghe (Rookie), Angela Hucles, Sarah Popper (Rookie), Kristine Lilly-C
Forwards - Dagny Mellgren, Maren Meinert

You'll have to take my word that there is a Breakers preview article...as there is no on-line posting this morning.

    ================

Aldama over McCann? If the preseason is any indicator, it's likely...

I don't think it managed to ever work for a full match last year  I'm going to miss the Boston PBPs, they always seemed to add more descriptions than the wusa one.

How can a human suffer a handball foul? Barring something that would get you a red card in a game involving males. ;)

I was just going to say that it seems like Mugneret-Beghe has been a bit quiet so far, but then again, it's hard to tell when you can't see the game.
