I have heard that Scolari will not continue as Brazilian Coach, that CBF will not renew his contract. Scolari has even been linked with Chile and Mexican National Team !?!?

Anyways who are the candidates to take the Selecao to Germany 06 ? I think to avoid what happened last time around (WCQ) Brazil needs to concentrate on a long term project..

My vote goes for Carlos Alberto Pareirra

Big Phil's future will be revealed tomorrow at a meeting with Teixeira. It will be some crowd in Fortaleza - who ever is in charge! I do hope Felipao gets no more of the Burro chants if he is there.

Future of Scolari as coach in doubt

RIO DE JANEIRO -- Brazil recalled its entire World Cup squad on Monday for its friendly against Paraguay later this month but the future of coach Luiz Felipe Scolari remained a mystery.

The squad that won the World Cup in Japan and South Korea -- including Ronaldo, Rivaldo, Ronaldinho and Roberto Carlos -- was named for the match in Fortaleza on August 21 while AS Roma midfielder Emerson was added to the list.

Emerson had been due to captain the team at the World Cup until he dislocated his shoulder in a bizarre training incident on the eve of Brazil's opening match against Turkey.

He was ruled out of the competition, his place in the team was taken by Gilberto Silva and the captaincy handed to fullback Cafu.

The match will be Brazil's first since it beat Germany 2-0 to win its fifth world title in Yokohama on June 30.

Brazil won all seven of its matches at the World Cup and is unbeaten this year, having won 12 and drawn one of the 13 matches the team has played.

A media conference in which Scolari had been expected to announce whether he would continue in the job was postponed until Thursday, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) said.

The CBF added that Scolari, who in only 13 months lifted Brazil out of the doldrums and led it to a fifth world cup, has agreed to stay on for the Paraguay game.

Speculation is rife that Scolari's family wants him to quit while the going is good but the CBF would like him to stay on.

"Big Phil" took over in June last year with Brazil in danger of missing out on the World Cup finals for the first time.

Re: Future of Scolari as coach in doubt

I think the thing to do is to quit, and then in 2005 when the Brasilian fans and press are calling for the head of the new coach, Scolari can come back and try to win an unprecedented back-to-back Cup as coach.

Perhaps he isn't getting the offers from Europe that he was hoping for though...I would think an Engilsh or German team would be interested. Yes, he had a lot of talent on his side, but he has always done well at the club level with mediocre talent.

Money not an issue for Brazilian coach

RIO DE JANEIRO -- Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has delayed a decision over whether he will continue in the job for the second time this week, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) said Thursday.

Scolari, who had been due to announce his decision Thursday afternoon, will instead wait until Friday, the CBF said in a statement. He had originally been expected to make his decision known on Monday.

Scolari, who defied all the odds by leading Brazil to its fifth world title, has been tight-lipped on the subject since the World Cup final on June 30, when his agreement to coach Brazil officially ended.

The man known as 'Big Phil', who has enjoyed celebrity status since the 2-0 win over Germany in Yokohama, is reportedly caught between his family, who want him to step down, and CBF president Ricardo Teixeira, who wants him to continue.

Thursday's media conference is believed to have been postponed because Teixeira had other commitments.

Scolari, who took over the Brazil team in June last year after previously coaching Cruzeiro, angrily denied on Thursday that the issue was about money.

"When I joined the Brazil team, I was earning less than I was at Cruzeiro," he said. "The people who invented this story have no brains."

Luis Felipe Scolari announced today in a press conference his intention to quit as Brazil team coach. The World Cup winning tecnico stated "family reasons" behind his decision to step down. He will stay in charge until Brazil's next game against Paraguay on August 21.

Does anyone know what these family reasons are? It appears that the Selecao will shut down after 21/8/02 and we will appoint a tecnico next year (on the other hand, the CBF likes money and will seek to cash in on Penta status.........)

Parreira doesn't want to come back. Why do you think he left in 98?

Fresh blood would make sense (i.e. no Zagalo, Parreira or Luxemburgo). I any event, who ever is named won't be there in 2006! The Dance of the Coaches and all that in Brazil!!
