Alcaraz has just been announced by Flamengo, with Alex Sandro announced earlier this week. Should have the forward by the end of the window, I hope. (The Brazilian transfer window closes Sep 1 if I remember correctly).

Flamengo wrapped up the deal for forward Gonzalo Plata as well. Good stuff I think, certainly in numbers, but I'm hopeful about the quality of Alcaraz and Plata too. Alex Sandro is quality, but the age is a concern. Of course we need a backup at left-back now and that's why he's here.

The other big "transfer" is Adryelson's return to Botafogo. Lyon is loaning him until the end of the year.

Textor juggling his assets around, I guess, to help improve Botafogo's defense and give them a chance of winning a title. It's exactly the sort of transaction I think a lot of people worry about with multiple clubs owned by one entity. They sacrifice Lyon's first half of the season to strengthen Botafogo's run towards the end of their season.

Looks like Corinthians is signing up Memphis Depay. He will make R$2.5m+ a month. God knows how they can afford it but I guess it's economically better than going into Serie B next year.

Also, Flamengo may be getting Anthony Martial.

I know we've had some non SA players play in Brazil, but I never expected these kind of players to come.

Tite is out at Flamengo. Filipi Luis will take the interim job.

Good news for Flamengo is that Tite's contract was only until the end of the year. So the recision shouldn't cost Flamengo that much.

My rating on Tite has gone down a bit ... but I think he was also unlucky. Had Copa America losing many starters (still did well point wise in the Brasileirão) and then not long after they returned, injuries started piling up. He wasn't able to deal with losing Pedro mainly. But not sure many coaches could and keep Flamengo's high expectations.

Like you said, financially this isn't as bad a decision as some other recent firings, but that's the only "positive" I can see. If Filipe Luis turns out to be a good coach right away, that will be a pleasant surprise, but he's being given a thankless job. Part of the reason they fired him is to try and look better for the election campaign going on right now for Flamengo.

Of course, Tite wasn't going to be renewed, and probably would fall at the next loss, or if he were eliminated from Copa do Brasil, but this is more of Flamengo being a not very professional administration when it comes to dismissing its coaches.

Flamengo are definitely hoping to still win the Copa do Brasil, and they are only 2 games behind Botafogo with 10 to go, so they could be in the race if 2 rounds go their way, but with Palmeiras on a streak and focused on the Brasileiro, Copa do Brasil is the focus for Flamengo.

I am wondering if they didn't trust Tite in CdB against Corinthians. Not that he would throw the game on purpose ... but his level of motivation at this point. He probably knew he was dead man walking anyways.

Filipe Luis is catching a hot potato ... but at the same time he can't be blamed for any failure this season. So he has all the upside. Worst case scenario, he goes back to where he was working on his coaching and waiting for the right time.

I'm excited to see how Felipe Luis does in managing these next few years regardless of how his Flamengo stint goes.

Filipe Luis will not be the interim coach for Flamengo. He actually signed a contract until the end of 2025. It was initially thought that Filipe would finish the season off and then Flamengo would evaluate if he would stay or if they were going on the market for a new permanent coach.

An interesting stat is that the last time a Flamengo coach was able to start the season and finish it was 2011. That coach was Luxemburgo. Since then there has always been a managerial switch at some point in the season. JJ obviously left on his own and wasn't fired.

And another wrinkle to the this Filipe Luis thing is that he was / is good friends with Gabigol. I think it won't be controversial for him to gain the starting spot for the rest of the season given his competition up front (Carlinhos and Plata). But it will be interesting to see if this affects the possibility of a renewal for next season. @Ombak

Fluminense and Marcelo part ways after the bust up between the player and Mano at the end of yesterday's game against Grêmio. Really crazy for a team still not safe from relegation.
