Brazilian U-23 coach Ricardo Gomes has announced the first 2 players for the Gold Cup next month, who play overseas:

    - midfield: Thiago Motta (Barcelona-SPA)
    - foward: Ewerthon (Borussia Dortmund-GER)

The roster will be completed in 7/2 with 16 players from the domestic league, likely including Kaká, Robinho and Diego.

Can US Vets dominate Brazil U23 = Brazil E team?

Brazil roster for the GOLD CUP. Here are my comments.

First Im excited for NILMAR, he is an 18 year old rookie for Inter and I will say here that HE WILL BE A STARTER by the end of the Cup. He may even win over Robinhos spot on the team. NILMAR is the NEXT bigtime player in Brazil. He may not look like it (still thin, and baby faced) but the kid is super fast and can turn on a defender better than ANY Brazilian today. WATCH FOR HIM.

Nadson also is a surprise forward this year playing for Vitoria and scoring lots of goals.

DIEGO is the big HOPE for this team as far as Im concerened. KAKA has had a horrible last year and nobody knows how he will perform. Robinho needs to stop fooling around with his Denilson style moves. Flu's midfielder Carlos Alberto is OK but overrated like many players that play for Rio teams.

Overall a beatable team, but maybe some Brazilian magic will prevail. If the US plays this Brazil team it will be a HUGE HUGE test for the US. It would say alot about US soccer if the Brazilian U-23 team could beat them.

This Brazil team would probably be a Brazil D or Brazil E team. Can the US dominate a Brazil E team? Maybe we will find out.

    Goleiros:
    Gomes (Cruzeiro)
    Alexandre Negri (Ponte Preta)

    Laterais:
    Maicon (Cruzeiro)
    Coelho (Corinthians)

    Zagueiros:
    Alex (Santos)
    Luisão (Cruzeiro)
    André Bahia (Flamengo)

    Volantes:
    Tiago Motta (Barcelona)
    Paulo Almeida (Santos)
    Júlio Baptista (São Paulo)

    Meias:
    Kaká (São Paulo)
    Diego (Santos)
    Carlos Alberto (Fluminense)

When you mean a U-23 team, do you mean everyone is 23 or under this year, or everyone is eligible to play in Olympics?

The current US team may lost to Brazil U-23 if they put kind of defenders like Berhalter on the field, and have no midfield play at all. If Reyna is fully recovered, he would dominate the midfield against young kids. By comparison, the US U-23 may have a better team--skill wise than FULL US team. When we begin to get ride of those old, non-skill veterans, then the full team will be a lot better.

Por favor..A scouting report on Brazil's GC squad

I have never seen or even heard of most of the players on Brazil's Gold Cup squad. Can someone please give a scouting report on the players and on what type of team and formation we can expect to see on the field?

with the coach they have now, just expect lots of changes on formations and the lowest scores possible to advance!

he is what we call 'results coach'!

I can only really comment on Motta. He had broken out this year for Barça, especially in recent months, and that in the midst of a very tough season for the team.

I saw Motta play for the B team years back, he was one of many talented kids, but nothing particularly standout apart from good ball skills.

Once he got his head into playing for the first side, including in Champions, helped by certain midfielders like Luis Enrique and Cocu being injured, he showed fantastic attitude on the field. Feisty, hard-working, good vision of play, intense from start to finish. Can take a bad yellow or even get the boot if he lets things get out of control. His shot is good and he can get forward to use it too.

I don't know how he is going to share the midfield with in this Brazil, but I think he can handle the best of midfielders we could see at Gold Cup. Including Mexicans and Americans.

You are probably thinking of Carlos Alberto Parreira. The brazilian U-23 coach and head of the olympic program is the former player Ricardo Gomes, a practically untested coach.
