In todays ZERO HORA a paper from Porto Alegre Brazil this is what an article about the confed cup had to say about the US. Alexandre Correia "The US of the forward Donovan, Japan of coach Zico and New Zealand are the long shots. Only co-stars in a tournament in which the final is expected to be Brazil x France" So it seems like at least in the eyes of this writer Donovan is the team leader and star. Im sure more write ups about the US team will happen leading up to the Saturday match between Brazil and US.
That's probably pretty close to true, since Freidel, Reyna, JOB, and Pope didn't make the trip. This ain't exactly the A-Team we're bringing.
I am half-Brazilian myself (born and raised here in the U.S.A.). But I wonder if that writer ever heard that saying about counting your chickens before they hatch.
Re: Re: Brazilian media says about the USA team why, the Brazilian writer is stating facts. The US, Japan, and New Zealand ARE long shots. France and Brazil ARE the favorites to appear in the final. He didn't say that no other team would get to the final or do well.
Anyone have the odds from Las Vegas or some site of the Confed Cup? I wonder how they rate US... my guess is 50-1.
Not that it has much bearing on this tournament, but in the 2001 Confed. Cup, Brazil went 1-1-2 and did not make the finals, so anything can happen.
Has any foreign news article conceded that the US isn't bringing their "A" team?? It seems that every article (and I've only read the British papers) stresses that Brazil & France are missing their stars, but there doesn't seem to be any acknowledgement that we're missing our two best midfielders, our best defenders, our best goalie(s), and one of our best strikers. Even the US (non-soccer) Media doesn't seem to get it.
particularly interesting considering our "best" goalies and midfielders are well known and established in europe.
Yet if we win the thing, or beat one of the "favorites" all we'll hear is that (Insert Team Here) didn't bring thier best players, didn't care, blah blah blah... Kevin
Adu had beans... GLOBO DO SPORT broke the article. And while in Argentina Donovan slept w/ six hookers in Mendoza during the U - 21 World Championships... This story was broke by Ole...
Not sure if bringing the "A-Team" would help. Hannibal doesn't control the midfield like he used to and B.A. has lost a step or two as a centre back.
But you have to admit that H.M. Murdock brings an element of unpredictability into the attack. Sachin
"The A-Team" Just seeing that van parked on the sidelines is worth at least a goal. "I'll get BA. Face, you spring Murdock."
I don't think anyone in Las Vegas other than me is aware that the Confed Cup is going on right now or that the US is playing in it.
