Its official peoples. ESPN has just agreed to show tonights game in the U-20 WC between Brazil and USA at 7:30pm tonight. No word on whether or not it will be on ESPN HD. This is good news for the American soccer fan. We have finally beaten World Series of Poker reruns, bass fishing, and car auctions.
We have been watching every USA under20 game onESPNU. and other games as well...............on dishnetwork channel 148, watched Poland beat Brasil......
i dont have access to espnu or espn360 so ive been watching the FIFA highlights online and some game on FSC Espanol. This is a welcome addition to start my weekend
Very cool. One wonders if this would have occurred without the Freddy Adu buzz. They were talking Freddy Adu again on PTI for chrissakes.
One whirling dervish impersonation for a goal, and BOOM! ESPN/Disney noticed a chance to potentially attract more eyes than the 384th replay of Grand Slam Poker. Really ballsy decision.
Wish I would have known 1 hour ago before coming to work. Damned be my luck!!! Guess I'll be making a trip home during lunch to set the DVR then.
it's actually going to be simulcast on ESPN, ESPNHD, ESPNU and espn360.com (all presentations will be in SD).
I didn't watch the second game, but during the Korea game did it sound like he was talking through a fan or was it just me?
I noticed it as well, lol. I mean, to be honest, for a guy sitting up there by himself doing game after game after game he's done pretty good. But the overall production value is terrible. Here's an idea, how about a scoreboard/time clock during the broadcast???? They only show it every once in a while. I ended up setting the timer on my cellphone at kickoff and and 2nd half kickoff just so I knew the clock time!
I'm so glad someone else mentioned that. If you had to step out to attend to something and came back, you had no idea if it was the middle or the end of the half (no, I don't carry my stop watch with me all the time.)
The funny thing was that the only way to check the score of the game you were watching was on the scrolling ticker at the bottom of the screen.
As I dont have ESPNU I've been watching games on FS en espanol so at least some of us can now hear it in English. Good thing.
I've already sent a compliment/comment to ESPN. In short, I congratulated them for their common sense in replacing a re-run with the U-20 game. And, in spite of increased anti-soccer rants lately, more coverage will bring more fans. Let's hope they receive better ratings than the eating contest.
Good move.. Too bad it wasn't done a bit early as I'm sure many people's onscreen guides have not been updated to show the change, including mine. That will lower the numbers a bit..
(Local bar in Anytown, USA) Joe Blow: What's that? Soccer?! Hey, Bob, change the channel back, somebody switched it off of ESPN.
If I hear Dave Obrien I swear to god I'll jump over to ************ quality non-english streaming from Shanghai.
damn, I just bought the spanish channels for the month from my cable provider so i could watch the game...oh well at least the announcer will speak english i hope.
