Would you rather see a similar team to the WC, or would you rather see some of our younger (i.e. U-23) players get experience against a quality team? Might as well start preparing for 2014, right?

    Yes.

Omar Gonzalez. Adu? Michael Stephens. Bedoya. Charlie Davies.

I imagine the coaching situation for next cycle will probably still be up in the air, so I think it should be treated as an extension of this cycle, unless the USSF has already decided to retain Bradley.

So I would think you would use players already in the pool if you are uncertain of his status, and possibly start planning for the next cycle if his contract has been extended.

A new coach with 100% new guys. We owe that game nothing in terms of starting player quality, and I'll be shocked if Brazil sends anyone of note. Let's start finding out who's mad that they didn't get chosen.

Bob might still be the coach til the end of 2010..his contract is up then.

Davies (if healthy), Jermaine Jones (if healthy, BIG if), Omar Gonzalez, Ike Opara, Boss? might still be too early for him.

Omar Gonzalez, Bedoya, Davies, Jones (if deemed healthy enough, sounds like he should). Random outlier for me would be Diskerud.

Even if they don't play, it's a good opportunity for Omar/Jones/Mix to start getting integrated with the team.

    A new coach, for one.

    And my lineup:

    4-3-3.

[LINEUP-4-3-3]Davies, Gomez, Donovan, Edu, Torres, Bradley, Bocanegra, Marshall, Gonzalez, Alston, Hesmer[/LINEUP-4-3-3]

We should arrange a friendly for 9/7 (FIFA date, I believe) to get the new coach going right.

Its unclear if USSF will try to hire before the end of the year, even if they do decide not to retain Bradley. The biggest thing is while foreign coaches will be available, any MLS candidates may chose to stay with their club. That may cause USSF to drag its heels on the issue until the end of the year, and deal with it in the offseason.

Will Hesmer should NEVER see the field wearing a US jersey. Ever. He is not good enough in any way.

Who by the way played pretty well tonight and seems to be improving every week for the Dynamo. I like him, good pick.

Some guys I'd like to see:

Boss <- if he's about to break into the Braga first team there is no way he's too young.

Opara <- need him and Boss to start building a relationship because I think they could be 2 good CBs

Omar <-- even though I think he may be slightly overrated, but people want to see him

    Alston
    Mix
    Davies
    Ale Bedoya
Luis Gil <- no i'm not kidding...get him integrated ala Mike Bradley back in 05-06
    Jack McInerney

a few other youngins. We need to get these guys CONFIDENT. I know they have had short careers thus far but they are the future and if we are talking about having them at big clubs then this is the way to do it. Get them exposed and mix them in with the big boys like Donovan, Dempsey, Mike, Edu etc. etc.

it's a FIFA date. i can assure you both teams will bring their full line-up. not to mention the fact that this is a game at a new stadium featuring nike teams. there's gonna be pressure to include everyone.

from a brazilian perspective, the first friendly after the world cup has always featured a fair amount of world cup players. for brazil, i honestly expect at least 15 players to make it from this current team with some new guys.

for the US -- i think the same thing. the work already begins for 2014.

Re: Brazil Friendly 8.10 - Who to bring in?

I thought at the time it was not a FIFA date. Now that I know it is.... Screw Hesmer.

Hey, I want to play Torres and Edu together. AND Holden, since it's a FIFA Date:

[LINEUP-4-4-2]Gomez, Dempsey, Holden, Torres, Edu, Bedoya, Bocanegra, Gonzalez, Marshall, Alston, Guzan[/LINEUP-4-4-2]

At some point, it would be nice to see Freddy Adu. And it would be cool to see Bradley coming off the bench for a change.

I'd like to see Ryan Smith (if he wants it) and Le Toux, if anything lets just see what they have in camp. There's more than just the next WC, I wanna win the GC and get to the Confederations Cup again, Olympics.

According to the FIFA calandar August 11 is a FIFA friendly date, I'm guessing that August 10 is close enough, so this IS a FIFA friendly date. I'm sure some of the bigger Brazil guys might stay home, but I'm sure others will be there. I expect anyone that the US asks to be there.

it pretty much is a FIFA date. august 10 is the friendly and the FIFA date is the 11th. most teams will have released their players anyways. i mean the club teams might give brazil and the US a hard time, but i doubt it -- considering the teams will already be short-handed.

I do want to see Le Toux...Is he eligible?

Furthermore, I know that September 3 and 9 are FIFA dates. The US really should arrange another friendly. I would like to see a USA/Mexico or USA/Argentina match here, to get the Fed some cash, and to break in the New Coach properly.

Re: Brazil Friendly 8.10 - Who to bring in?

By the way, I also think we should bring in Lester Dewee who is on Rongen's U-20s and plays for Olympique Marseille's youth team. I think he is 17-18. Anyway I figure if he's getting regular time for them he should be good enough to at least try to get him a look.

I really think we need to bring in a lot of new guys for this one. Let's start building the future now.

EDIT: he's been training with the reserves and he's eligible for multiple nations. We may not be able to cap tie him but lets at least call him up so that he knows we want him to represent us. Would be a shame to lose a kid with that much talent.

I remember going to see the USMNT play Australia in San Jose. It was Arena's first game in charge since our 3 and out in 98.

Only four players from the cup team played.

We need to do the same in August. Not because 2010 was a debacle or in anyway resembles 1998, but because we need to gracefully close this era and move on. Demerit, Onyewu, Boca, Dolo, Clark, Donovan and Dempsey will all be remembered for their contributions to the USMNT. Some may even become legends but they're fringe players now. We need to be building around our nucleus of players and this game is perfect to do just that. Regardless of the result.

Unfortunately, it may not be a smart idea to call up European based players so I suspect that we'll see mostly MLS players with a leavening of Mexico-based players.
