Looks like Parreira will not be calling the trio Kaka-Diego-Robinho for the Confederations Cup.

Not only the two Santos' players may still be commited with their team in Copa Libertadores, but Parreira want to spare the youngsters for the U-23 NT that will compete in the Gold Cup in preparation for the south-american pre-Olympics next year.

I wonder why Denílson and Júnior (Parma) weren't called...

Re: Brazilian roster for the Confederations Cup

Parreira announced he wants to give a rest to Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos, Rivaldo, Flavio Conceicao and Cafu after their long European seasons so that they'll be ready for the eliminatorias in September. It is interesting that of the European based players from the World Cup- Denilson, Junior and Edmilson weren't named but frankly none of the three have been in good form this season.

With Santos in the Libertadores, that rules out Diego, Robinho, Alex and Paulo Almeida all of whom I think would have been candidates to be selected. Parreira has stated he'll not take more than two from any Brazilian club to the Confederations Cup. So who do you Brazilian fans think he'll select? There are still 12 players to be named.

I would have assumed Kaka would have been agiven but MIGKiller says he won't be chosen. How about Kleber, Luisao, Rogerio Ceni and Ricardinho? Maybe Anderson Polga, Alex and Luis Fabiano?

Keeper Julio César from Flamengo is in great shape and since Rogerio Ceni had a serious indiscipline incident last week he'll probably be let out of the seleção as punishment.

Some commentator close to Parreira said that Alex's (Cruzeiro) return to the NT is a given.

Athirson may also be the other player from Flamengo to be called.

Ze Roberto is not going to the Confederations Cup as he is getting his tonsils removed instead.

Here is the complete list of Brazilians at the Confed Cup and my comments:

Julio Cesar on Sunday was scored on 6 times by Parana Club. I dont understand why Vasco's Fabio would get a call up other than Parreira making the Rio-Sao Paulo Press happy.

Cruzeiro is on a roll so its expected to see many of their players being called up.

Alex has been playing very well and he gets another shot on the national team.

Luis Fabiano and Ilan two of the top scorers in the National championship get a deserved callup.

Its sad but no Gaucho club players even though Internacional is in 2nd place , 2 points behind Cruzeiro in the National Championship.

To those wanting Kaka, he has been injured alot lately and hasnt played well in a while. Even the Sao Paulo fans are getting on him. Kaka needs to refocus.

I too think Diego would have been a great addition to this team and Robinho would have been nice too.

Umm..maybe because our players were chosen by the gods of football to bring magic and hope for the poor masses of the world? That seems a reasonable explanation.

    Its a combination of things:

1- All Brazilians including the Pros grew up playing soccer everyday at school, at home, on the streets, in the mud, with a sock ball, rolled up newspaper whatever could be made round if a ball wasnt available.

2- They start doing the above early, at 3, 4 , 5 years old and never stop.

3- They grow up doing the above with many other kids that learned from kids before them, its an endless chain.

4- The weather is usually good for year round play unlike most of Europe.

5- With all of the above elements one important thing comes out of it which lacks in many places including the US, in Portuguese the word is "Malandragem", meaning a combination of "savvy" and "street smarts". By the time a kid is 12 he is one with a soccer ball. The talent pool is imense.

6- Brazil is a huge country with a large population, 170 Million. Add all the items above and 50 years of world dominence and there you go.

7- Add to that the sun, rythm of samba, beautiful woman and you wuill have yourself a 5 time world champion country.

they are amazing. i have never been so impressed with any team as i was of brasil against england last year after ronaldino was sent off. they absolutely toyed with england with just 10 men, and england was propbably the 3rd or 4th best team in the tournament.

I was recently in Cumbuco, a small town about 30 minutes outside of Fortaleza that has some beautiful beaches.

(Side note - one of the guys trynig to sell me a sand buggy ride showed me his pictures of where the 'tour' takes you, and he had pictures of Ronaldinho visiting there and taking his buggy after WC 2002. That would have been some nice timing...).

Back to the point - there were these 7-8 year old kids playing soccer on a small, concrete court. Their ball skills were just AMAZING for their age. They were at least attempting moves made by their Selecao idols. Moves I've never seen anyone in 4 years of my amateur leagues here in the States even have the imagination to try. The control and idea of how to play the game is just completely different. How to move off of the ball, when to shoot, where to aim, etc. And this was a bunch of kids in the far Northeast that doesn't have a tradition of producing players for the country. It's a style you just have to grow up around.
