    WC2006.....
Is Brazil simply too good....or will another country emerge as World champs in 2006? who could do it ?

I would say these six would have a chance; a slim chance:

Portugal (experience from euro to build on, C. Ronoldo and great defense)
Czech Republic (gifted players, dangerous attack, know each other well)
Holland (they are due, Robben a future star, dangerous attack)
Spain (one of these days they will get it together, there talent is 2nd to none
Germany (can never be counted out, especially as hosts)
England (too many world class players:Lampard, Terry, Cole, Gerrard,Owen, Rooney, 2006 is 40th anniversary)

In all seriousness I believe that the only ones that can beat Brazil are the Brazilians. If they play thier game they way they can they are unstopable.

Porto striker Fabiano scored a hattrick in today's Brazil workout.

I don't think he scored in the Superliga as of yet

It's important to say that Brazil went through a golden age in 1994/WC. How long will it last? Nobody knows. But it will not last indefinitely and we are aware of that.

We are living in the Ronaldo's era. Nobody, since Pelé, has ever been so dominant as Ronaldo when it comes to the Seleção Brasileira. The last Copa América was the first time Brazil won a tournament without Ronaldo on the pitch since his age begun. Here in Brazil we say that there are "club players" and "Seleção players". Ronaldo is definitely a Seleção player. He plays better when he's wearing the yellow jersey, probably because he has a profound sense of the importance of the Seleção in his lifetime. He wants to win the World Cup once more and mark his name side by side with Pelé.

So, there is always a perspective to evaluate the match. First of all, Brazil have the psychological advantage over the opponent. Part of the answer is that the yellow jersey usually frightens the other team.

If it's a friendly, a cash paying game, it's not so dificult to beat Brazil. Brazilian players don't want to be injured in a match CBF is being paid for - so, they don't play as they can. The same happens if it's a celebration match. There's nothing to win.

If it's a rivalry game, Brazilians will play to win and try to toy with the opponent.

If it's a big tournament, with historical importance and all the big dogs are invited, Brazilians will try their best - like, for instance, against England in the last World Cup. Sometimes they win. Sometimes they don't.

Obviously, Brazil is not unstopable, as you know.

I'd have to say Brazil are the favourites. I ain't goin out on a limb.
When you have Ronaldo, Adriano, Fabiano, Robinho, Kaka, Ronaldinho, Diego,
Juninho, Ze Roberto, Edu, Roberto Carlos, Roque Junior, Luisao, Franca(B. Leverkusen), prolly a few more players that emerge from Brazil itself or Europe(Superliga)...the prospects are scary.

But teams like...Argentina, England, Spain, Portugal, Italy, will needs lots of luck. Germany as hosts and the Netherlands should'nt be forgotten.
On paper Brazil should slap around the competition, but Greece showed us a high-efficient, defensively conscious team could perform the unthinkable. So there could be the possible upset.

no one is infallible. especially brasil.

they are like the america of soccer. viewed to be the best but not immune to failure. just look at bush...failure. brasil's bush will come. someday, somewhere, their bush may already be waiting. :p

i got a feeling italy could beat them, portugal have a fantastic defense which is very important in winning these kind of competitions so we have to be contenders. figo saying good bye with the world cup in his hands, i can see it happening.

Refer to thread "on the way to 29000 posts" (it's back one page). If you haven't seen it yet, I'm sure you'll find it quite amusing. :D
