But why pay that high foreign salary, when you're on a shoestring budget, which most clubs are, when you can pay a somewhat similar journeyman native to be a squad player. A lot of players are making €75k/year. 18 or 19 years old signs a contract with a basic salary of € 197,308. 20 years or older signs a contract with a basic salary of € 394,616 I think you vastly underestimate the number of players, younger players in particular, who earn way less than that. Mendez was on like €15k/year at Freiberg. He'd have gone to Ajax for €75k without a doubt. The fact that they had to pay him €200k eats up a chunk of the budget. Ajax can afford it. Heracles, Sittard, Venlo, etc cannot be paying average squad players, and speculative youngsters star money. So in effect most squads fill the edges of the roster with EU players to avoid paying huge salaries that cripple their budgets, which in turn prevents some clubs from taking a flyer on non-EU talents. Not germane to this league but I'd be willing to bet that Hoppe isn't making €200k/year on his first contract.
I believe the minimum salary is approximately the average salary in the league, the idea being that you can sign a foreign player, if you think he's better than the average player in the league.
McKenzie makes the squad list for tomorrow's big game against league leaders Club Brugge. Deze 22 heren zakken af naar Brugge. 💪💙👉https://t.co/92Evr77OW4#krcgenk #mijnploeg #clugnk pic.twitter.com/poFK5XVsHw— KRC Genk (@KRCGenkofficial) January 23, 2021 Also somehow Cuesta is making the trip for this one again despite two consecutive red cards in his last two matches.
Starting Onze elf die de strijd aangaan in Brugge. Supporters, moedig onze jongens aan! 💪💙#krcgenk #mijnploeg #clugnk pic.twitter.com/In84q8uhhr— KRC Genk (@KRCGenkofficial) January 24, 2021
That Carlos Cuesta guy starts again after getting a red card in the last two matches Does anyone have any idea what the hell is going on lol how is he still starting
Was able to watch the last 30 minutes where Genk lost the game. I don't think McKenzie was really at fault for any of the goals. Maybe he coulda been in a better position to cut out the cut back cross for Brugge's second, but I'd say the complete lack of any defense in the middle of the box allowing a wide open shot from a trailing Brugger midfielder was the much bigger reason for the goal. Genk wasn't able to sustain any offense at all, their attack was really unimpressive. Lots of misplayed passes and lack of cohesion.
Someone on twitter said that he doesn't start serving his suspension until the league determines how many games he should be out for. I don't know why the league wouldn't be able to make that determination immediately after the game, but maybe that process takes a little longer in Belgium?
I wonder if he could appeal the second red on the basis that he shouldn't have even been allowed to play that game.
In the travel squad for tomorrow’s game: Onze coach kiest voor dezelfde 22 jongens als in Brugge. 🔵⚪👉https://t.co/ahQi0WzpgE#krcgenk #mijnploeg #gnkzwa pic.twitter.com/1HBBfibFDW— KRC Genk (@KRCGenkofficial) January 26, 2021
The travel squad shouldn't have to travel far today, as Genk - now in 3rd after earning just one point in their last four matches; in contrast, 2nd place Antwerp have won 3 of 4 - host 12th-place Zulte Waregem today at 12:45 PM eastern. Perhaps someone would like to create a McKenzie game-day thread and save @bungadiri the trouble.
Per the bolded text. Sorry, but I just don't see it. We'll have to agree to disagree. @bungadiri has all the experience and technical ability to produce outstanding day in, day out game-day threads. He does such a great job with enormous consistency. I think the younger BS would-be interlopers who think they can do better should stay in Division 2 for another year. Or, try MLS. My 2 cents.
