The kid is just bright as hell. Definitely has all the makings. I’m so pumped for him. Wish I got some Belgian League games. I think they are on somewhere but I can’t get that channel/stream.
The young kids are shedding the stigma of American players being athletic but tactically naive. We are breeding players that are now “smart footballers”. It’s gaining respect. Quickly, I might add. McKenzie is well spoken, smart on/off the pitch, athletic, and tactically sound. He’s going to make Genk better. He’s also going to get better. And when it’s all said and done.... he’s gonna make Genk, like Philly, a butt load of cash when he’s ready to move on.
Mark McKenzie en Angelo Preciado zitten meteen in de selectie voor de uitwedstrijd tegen Moeskroen. 💪💙👉https://t.co/Hl4NlPIBBI#krcgenk #moegnk #mijnploeg pic.twitter.com/KbXVWx8bjw— KRC Genk (@KRCGenkofficial) January 15, 2021 Looks like a brief stay in YA Academy.
we heard about it during the u20s, but mckenzie just oozes leadership. the sort of guy you can see others looking to for guidance and stability.
Can we trade / sacrifice the Allsvenkan or Indian Super League on ESPN+ for the Jupiler league? Seems reasonable, right?
Yup all 3 fairly young Colombian CBs. I’m sure there’s a weak link out of the three that I expect Mark to replace in 1-3 weeks.
An all Colombian backline is kind of interesting to me for a Belgian side. Actually, looking over their lineup, they have a very diverse makeup. Australian GK; 3 Colombian defenders; Ecuadorian and Finnish wingbacks; a Slovakian center mid; and Japanese and Nigerian attackers. There are two Belgian players in there as well. I would be surprised if any other team in Belgium regularly fielded a lineup with that many players from outside of Europe.
Would love to see the debut today, but down 1-0 in a match that feels like very bad news in the title race, doesn't feel like his day.
If all the write-ups of Genk games are as good as this one, following McKenzie should be a fun ride. "A game that shouldn't have been played and in which everything that could go wrong also went wrong: the snow that had made a mess of the terrain, some questionable but crucial decisions by the race management, and a dose of bad luck. This is the fatal cocktail for a painful defeat at Le Canonnier. Nowhere was the snow so massively thrown from the sky as in the region around Mouscron. There was 7-8 inches of snow on the property. The protective cloth had already been removed before noon, when the snow zone was still on its way. Until shortly before kick-off, there was some clearing with a limited number of people, so that both penalty areas and the lines were free of snow. Normal football would become an illusion over large strips of the field. The situation was hopeless, but according to ref Jasper Vergoote not serious: "Playing!" it sounded. The top of KRC Genk decided 'subject to change'. {And then the game began.} https://www.krcgenk.be/nl/nieuws/4125/met-2-0-onderuit-op-sneeuwtapijt
It was very common in Belgium which is partly why they instituted the rule that there must be six Belgian trained players in every matchday squad.
