The other team took the lead 4-3. Absolutely crazy game with still 10 minutes left. So wide open and back and forth goal scoring. What is with this league. Very entertaining. The first goal McKenzie probably couda done more, the attacker beat the Genk LB in the box, and McKenzie slid over to help. But he was a bit too slow with his attempt to poke the ball away and the attacker was able to center the ball through McKenzies legs for someone else to poke home for a goal. The other three goals, McKenzie was not really involved. They all came from corners too but none came from McKenzies man. Other than that I thought he has looked good. Genk has enjoyed a lot of possession and chances, many of those involved instances where McKenzie made some good step ups at midfield to win the ball back quickly and keep possession for his team.
I've watched the last 30 minutes or so. It was 3-3 when I tuned in. Genk have dominated possession and chances while I've viewed but Oostende got one off a recycled ball following a corner. The level of play seems quite high. The speed of play, weight of passes and touches of the players is good.
But not starting today ... Champions League qualification v Shakhtar Donetsk (return match next Tuesday).
It's a small sample size and Sadick (the starting RCB this game) is new to the squad, but I think Mark looked much better defensively and on the ball for their first couple of matches. Hopefully this is just rotation, and fingers crossed the coach prefers a Lucumi-Mckenzie partnership in a back 4 when they play that.
Lucumi/McKenzie are probably competing for the LCB spot while Sadick/Cuesta compete for the RCB spot.
Was it Cuesta or Lucumi who got a red card 2-3 games in a row last season? Either way, I'm confident based on Mark's level of play for Genk that he will be an important piece for them. Barring a surprising steep drop off in quality and confidence
They lost 1-2 at home but, remember away goals are not a thing anymore. I keep having to remind myself of that.
McKenzie not playing in an important game is disappointing. Hopefully this isnt foreshadowing for this season.

1-0 the other team scores. McKenzie wasnt involved at fault. The entire play was from a recycled corner that didnt need to happen .Cuesta won a foot race to a long ball and just had to play it to his keeper, but he must have gotten his feet wrong because he ended up kicking it out for a needless corner. A few seconds later ... a goal...
Genk win 2-1 over Kortrijk. Get this, Mark McKenzie played just 65 minutes and left with the score 1-1 (wasn’t at fault for Kortrijk’s goal). In just 65 minutes, he had 120 touches (!) and was 101/108 in passing, 4/6 long balls, & won 5/7 in duels. #USMNT https://t.co/JP5IOMs2l9— Brian Sciaretta (@BrianSciaretta) August 7, 2021 Dios mio
No injury, it was for Lucumi so I assume that confirms McKenzie is basically LCB #2 and they wanted to get Lucumi more match fit. I thought McKenzie was fine, definitely not at fault for the goals and no worse than Cuesta and Munoz. Tweet - 120 touches and 101/108 passing is crazy. Those are good stats.
I happy for Mckenzie but, a CB touching the ball that much means the build up play was not very good.
