Happy Birthday to our very own @markmckenzie4_ 🎂Wishing you the best day and year to come! ⚽️🚀 pic.twitter.com/gN8IhOkZZi— Orange Slices (@sliceofsoccer) February 25, 2021 It’s also Mark’s birthday, I wouldn’t have found out if it wasn’t for their podcast.
It is crazy to see all these active players having podcasts. Like Patrick Bamford is on the Leeds United podcast, Asmir Begovic has a podcast. But, then again professional soccer players do have a good amount of free time.
I just listened to the Tyler Adams episode. They all had interesting points about adjusting to playing in Europe.
Genk are still clinging to third place, but they have lost three in a row. Six games left, with a clear goal of finishing in the top four. The margin in the top half of the table, from teams 3-10, is just three points. Must stop the bleeding today. Genk @ Charleroi today (Friday) at 2:45 PM eastern Charleroi is 11th but just four points out of third place. Incredible!
Google says "Championship Round" for the top 4 and Europa playoffs for the next 4. The EPL top 4 get UEFA Champions League Group Stage... so I don't know what it means either. Perhaps they fight it out for a couple of slots in the CL group stage? Anyone?
And if you guys do not know Belgium has a playoff system. The top 4 teams make it (it is usually 6), they half everyone's point total and each side plays each other twice.
^ Someone here must know the ins-and-outs. Per Wiki: "Play-offs I (also known as the title playoffs) are contested by the top-four clubs in the regular season, with each club playing each other twice. "
It was in 18-19 but, there is 2 extra teams in the top flight because of last season ending early. So now there is only 4 teams in the Championship playoff.
So out of the top four teams two make it into the CL Group Stage? And the two that do not.... do they get to go to the Europa Qualifying Rounds?
One CL group stage, one CL playoffs, third place goes to Europa Conference playoff and 4th place plays the winner of the separate European playoffs between 5-8 for a spot in Europe. If the Belgian cup winner qualifies to Europe through the league 3rd place goes to Europa League qualifying and 4th goes to Europa Conference qualifying.
In-season playoffs are fun in Football Manager and for big club supporters/neutrals, but I'm not a fan. Overly complex and/or too heavily reduces importance of the first phase of the season.
Even in Football Manager it sort of sucks. Since my players seem to start choking once the playoffs start.
Damn, I would love to play for Genks coach. Imagine being responsible for 2 red cards and 2 separate PKs in the last month and getting back into the starting 11 to displace a CB who was playing better than you.
Wondering what about the other 3 CB’s game is better than McKenzie. Thought I’ve heard a lot of good thing about his game since he joined, but maybe we haven’t seen enough of his game with the lack of TV coverage.
