So a new era begins today with 24 teams comprising the Serie A. The Serie B, filled with so many big name clubs, could be just as well labelled A1. Today's matches are:

    Corinthians SP x Atlético MG
    Atlético PR x Grêmio RS
    Flamengo RJ x Coritiba PR

Juventude RS x São Paulo SP
    Fortaleza CE x Bahia BA
    Vitória BA x Figueirense SC
Cruzeiro MG x São Caetano SP
Internacional RS x Ponte Preta SP
    Santos SP x Paraná PR

Just to tell you guys that on the wednesday(damn i think i spelled that wrong) Paysandu beats up "former" champs Santos 2 X 1 on Belem, geez, 3 games and no victories, I think Santos is really going down this season.... Hail to Galo, the best of the best, 2 games, 4 points, and no goals admitted!

    early observations

Some early observations on Brasileiro '03

    - the competition is going to go down to the wire as always. Only in the Brasileiro can anyone beat anyone without it raising eyebrows. Most unpredictable league in the world.

    - Marcelinho Carioca is still the best free kick taker in the world....bar none. He disappeared for awhile, but his venom is back. No one today shoots a ball with so much 'movement'. Unbelievable.

    - The re-awakening of Alex, the best news so far. On one of these threads we talked about future stars of the Selecao, and I lamented Alex's fall from grace. His play to date has been genial. I hope he can keep it up.

    - Luxemburgo keeps proving he is the best coach in Brazil. If he only could learn humility........

    - Sao Caetano is still the best cinderalla story in football.

Megasoccer.com has some good week by week coverage of futebol brasileiro, but there aren't too many english sites that cover it in depth. Follow the links in Megasoccer.com and then save the brazil page as your favorite.

The mineiro teams never cease to amaze me with their rebuilding and ability to attract quality players. Top two in the table again.
Also, the games this year have been great so far, even the smaller tems: Figuerense, Criciuma, Paysandu, etc. are playing the bigger clubs very tough. It is good to see Inter playing well again. I cannot wait until June 14/15! Check out the schedule that weekend!

Again,we were first before we lost to Flu,anyway this is just the begining but we are definitely looking good and we'd like to hang on to our youngbloods.

No final do Brasileiro, esse garoto estará tão badalado quanto o Robinho e o Diego, do Santos – disse o presidente do Inter, Fernando Carvalho.

Domingo próximo contra o Goiás, no Beira-Rio, o Inter defenderá a liderança do Brasileiro.

It wasn't robbery, Ponte Preta used people that were not elegible and they got caught. They lost the points against Inter and, today, they will lose the points for the game against Juventude.

It sucks, but those are the rules... :(

Yeah order must be maintained otherwise everyone is going to use players that are not eligible.

Bas enough Gremio got away with using 2 players in the Gre-Nal that had red cards in the previous match.

Please tell me a little more about these twins Diego and Diogo. Who is better? What kind of player? Which European clubs are after them?

    Thanks,

Diego and Diogo are 18 years old.

Both are still kinda thin boys (like Robinho oe even a Beasley). DIEGO is on Inter's main team, he is a forward and the better known of the twins. DIOGO is a midfielder and has been promoted this year but hasnt made his Pro debut yet.

Inter is aggresivley signing their youth for the next 5 years (Nilmar was first), BUT they also signed Fabio Rochemback for 5 years weeks before selling him to Barcelona 2 years ago.

The clubs in a way have an incentive now in Brazil to KEEP there players because at the end of their contracts they can walk. So unless they sell them during the contract period they get nothing for them (The Pele Law). So in a way if the Brazilian teams can find money to pay their players well they may stay. Problem is without money from sales of players where wil they get money? Gates isnt enough.

    cruzeiro Leaders!
