São Caetano, Atl. Paraná, Gremio and Cruzerio come to mind as possible favorites. I'm tempted to add Flamengo. But last year Mengão won the Copa de Campeõnes....then they were almost relegated from the Brasilerio (as if the CFB and Globo would have ever permitted that ;-) ).

    1. Atl-P has managed to keep its team pretty much intact.
    2. Cruzeiro lost Sorin, but are semi-finalists vs. Fla in tonight's CC semi-final. 3. Gremio is facing a player rebellion because managment is asking the players to take a 50% pay dedeuction (elimination from the Libertadores meant the club lost the money they were counting on to pay the guys).
    4. SC is a relative oasis of stability, plus Adhemer is returning.

Well, there is always Paysandú! :))))

Adhemar is returning? What happened to him in Germany? Why didn't Sao Paulo sign him when they had a chance, he is better than that inutil França!

Atlético has great supporters. After they scored it sounded like they were chanting, "Whoop! There it is!" :D

Sao Paulo outraged by fouling against Kaka

RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug 19 (Reuters) - Sao Paulo went top of the Brazilian championship after beating Parana 3-2 at the weekend despite having Kaka, their top player, repeatedly hacked down by the opposition.
The 19-year-old, who was a reserve in Brazil's squad at the World Cup, scored the first goal and set up the other two despite being the victim of some brutal tackling.

Sao Paulo coach Oswaldo Oliveira was livid after two clear red card offences against Kaka were punished with only yellows by referee Leonardo Gaciba.

'The referee allowed violence against our forwards, in particular Kaka, but this made our win all the more impressive,' he said.

    'CRIMINAL' TACKLING

Kaka was himself booked for handball after he was fouled and his outstretched arm hit the ball as he fell. But he said he would not be intimidated.

'I got kicked again but they're not going to stop me and I'm not going to get riled by their provocations,' he said.

The referee's performance brought an avalanche of criticism, with veteran commentator Armando Nogueiro describing the Parana tackling as 'criminal'.

Critics say the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) have repeatedly failed to clamp down on violent play and the careers of the country's most talented players are being threatened.

Sao Paulo have nine points from their three games.

Veteran striker Romario scored twice for the second weekend running as Fluminense beat Gremio 3-1. The 36-year-old, who won the 1994 World Cup with Brazil, joined the club two weeks ago.

Former Brazil coach Emerson Leao had a miserable afternoon at his old club Juventude, where he was jeered by the crowd and saw his Santos team go down to a 2-1 defeat.

'It was a very poor game and we played badly, we can't have any complaints,' he said.

Cruzeiro were jeered off the field after being held to a goalless draw at home by Botafogo on the debut of controversial coach Vanderley Luxemburgo.

Luxemburgo, another former Brazil coach, was accused of unethical behaviour last week after he walked out Palmeiras to join his new club.

Bebeto has returned to Vasco da Gama!! I wanted to see him and Romario hook up, maybe the rivalry between him and Romario is still strong. Cause it seems as though he waited til Romi left to join!!
