Who are the scrimmages against? Any new players being brought along? Any trialists from Brasil? Same routine as Clavijo had last year or something new? Who will be this years ping pong champion?
Will FDA once again follow the team to Brazil and take the opportunity to wax philosophical about Il Jogo Bonito? I'm guessing yes.
Sao Paolo, Palmeiras, and Guarani are just three of the clubs they'll see action against. Reportedly, it'll be virtually the same agenda as last years, just without Jim Rooney's incessant needling of assistant "technico geral." And, Brothers Gus Martins and FDA will accompany the team. If any of you are interested, you might want to ring up Varig and go. It's certainly cheap enough. No idea on the trialist except to say the Son Of Zico [poor kid must have got the mom's genes] won't be making a return voyage. Nicol's odds-on to repeat. Sight unseen, I'd venture a guess and say JMM will offer this year's challenge.
Any chance that Nowak will be making the trip? How about Llamosa? I figure he and Serna could hitch a ride to Brazil, then shoot up to Columbia.
All good questions. No answers at this time, though. Well, save for one. Serna, to me, looks like he'd struggle at junior college - Columbia would be way over his head.
This should change Peter's mind! Someone needs to tell Peter Nowak about Oscar's Oriental Baths, complete with Oriental girls... Oscar's Oriental Baths! (Thanks, Moacir...) While I'm sure the facility is fine for the Revs' purposes, I can more fully appreciate the comments made from last year's trip.
Re: Mr. Nowak The Rev's need to bring home a Brasilian attacking midfielder. We've just taken a bath with Mr. Nowak.
Yes, but... Diego of Santos FC would be a good one. He is only 17. But we would need the salary cap of the NY Yankees...
How about Krafty Bob signing him for the Patriots as competition for Vinatierri. Then we could get him for the minimum! Are there any rules against this?
Very amusing idea. But I've heard there's this silly cap system in the NFL as well. Can you imagine Bob Kraft having to defend using Patriot cap space for a [gasp] soccer player? Especially since Vinatierri is officially God of the Place Kickers in New England. Not in our lifetime.
Mystery Men from our past off to Brasil? Who will be on trial in Brasil? Patrick Buhlman? The Cabellero on the White Horse?
Has anyone heard anything from Brasil? Did they make it there safe? Are they playing beach soccer at Copa? Are they eating Brasilian BBQ and drinking capirinhas? Has FDA uncovered any jogo bonito tendencies from thsi training camp? Anyone?
Has FDA uncovered any jogo bonito tendencies from this training camp? Probably within himself if he ate a bad serving of Feijoada. The Magpie
revolutionsoccer.net had something up yesterday that for some reason isn't there now. It was a journal type report by Kamler. It basically said that they got there, it's hot, they've been having two-a-days, and that everyone was smart enough to bring PS2 and X-Box games this time around. I guess that means no ping-pong tourney. Bummer. Did anyone else see this or am I crazy?
It's there now Ral. As a youth coach, I love to read these things. I think we coaches are always on the prowl for that new drill or game that will finally turn our kids into the next coming. Everytime I read or hear about professional practice sessions, I am reminded that they are very simple and not really different from what we do - possession and small sided games.
http://www.revolutionsoccer.net/news/press_releases/fullStory_247.asp Can you picture Steve Nicol navigating Grand Theft Auto? Just in case it gets yanked again... Greetings from Brazil February 12 A big Brazilian hello to all Rev fans! We finally made it to where the soccer part of our preseason starts, Aguas de Lindoia, Brazil. It was quite a long journey - 10-11 hours by plane and then a three-hour bus ride. Kind of sounds like a Gilligan's Island episode, huh? I heard a lot about this place from the guys last year, mainly because it had not been completed yet and did not have many of the conveniences that we have in the states. So since this is my first preseason as a Rev, I did not know what to expect. Let me be the first to tell all of you that the place we are staying in is very nice. The rooms are nice. The fields are in great condition. There is a nice pool and a great workout facility. And the food is pretty good, too. Even the guys that were here last year thought the place had been nicely upgraded. It also helps that a lot of guys brought PlayStation or Xbox to watch movies or play games. Ghost Recon, FIFA 2003, Madden 2003, and Grand Theft Auto seem to be some of the favorite games. Between everyone who brought movies, there must be at least 75 different titles down here. As for others, there is always a good magazine or book to read. As for the soccer part of the trip, we started practice for another run at the Cup yesterday (Tuesday) with a session in the morning. Because of the long trip and the heat, it took a while for most of us to get our legs back as well as adjust to the switches in climate. There was an extended warmup and then we went to small possession games. We finished up with a small-sided game. At the end of it all everyone was pretty exhausted. Today (Wednesday) we had two sessions. The morning session went well and it seems as if everyone was starting to get used to the heat. I'm starting to miss the cold weather back in Boston! Everyone was very sharp this morning. We started with a warmup, went into some possession games and finished up with a game between the 18-yard boxes. Our second session, we broke up into two groups and each group worked with the coaches for an hour. Well, that is what has been going on down here for the last couple of days. I hope everyone is doing well back home and I look forward to seeing all of you at Gillette Stadium this year. -Brian Kamler
Here's a site for the town where they're staying. And, their base is Oscar Inn Sports Eco Resort [see link on web page]. http://www.aguasdelindoia.com/ Sounds good so far. All they have to do now is avoid creating an international incident, a la last year - see Mamadou Diallo and Rusty Pierce.
I like these "Greetings From Brazil" ...there is one from Joe Franchino posted to go along with Brian's from yesterday: http://www.revolutionsoccer.net/news/press_releases/fullStory_248.asp
"Most of us married guys got together last night and talked about our wives and how much we miss them. We're all really lost without them!" Can anyone pick out the newlywed in the group?

oh that was entertaining. best line has to be "This is Jay Heaps, signing off at my feeble attempt to be a reporter!", if i had a signature, that would go in it.
