Why dont you guys get along? Here in Los Angeles I have talked to many Brasilenos and they dont have too many nice things to say about the Argentinos, and vice versa. I love Brasil (what Mexican doesnt) Argentina is great too.

Argentina and Brazil have been rivals since they became countries. Sort of like a battle for suppremacy in South America. But today I think that is more concentrated in Football. From my own personal experience living in Argentina for 6 months, I felt no difference in treatment or hostility because i was brazilian.

Argentina ever gave us a real fight for supremacy?

We have always been the Big Brother in South America.

Brazil and Argentina, the two best (non soccer related).

    blah..

    confidence and arrogance...

I think there is alot of other countries other than those mentioned above that maintain the sudamericanoness.

 ...nah but being serious, i dont have a problem with brazilians, i have a couple of brazlian friends myself, they're great people. The rivalry only comes in soccer, where i want them to lose every game.

I think that the rivalry persists. But in soccer and in politician plan. For example: Brasil had plans to enter for the Security Council of the UN. Argentina joined to other countries and made opposition to the G4. Perhaps this has been one of the biggest defeats of ours so respected diplomacy. It also has the economic side. Argentina puts quotas on the Brazilian footwear. Brasil imposes high taxes on the Argentine wheat.

It´s a cultural/historical issue. And I guess it´s so ancient that i´ts hard to define when it started. It doesn't help the fact that Brazil is the biggest south americn country. This seems to upset Argentina. But the "main" battle/rivalry is still on soccer:)

I agree with what most people said, the rivalry is only as far as football.
I have no problem with Argentina people and in fact have some Argentine friends, once you get past football it is a normal relationship.

As far as football, the rivarly is only natural. We our neighbors in South America and just happen to be 2 of the best in the football nations in the world, this makes it easy almost like an obligation for there to be a big rivalry.
Then you have the 2 different styles, the Brasilian on the field who plays with joy,for the fans, mostly individually talented, and even in the heat of battle is having a good time,O jogo alegre and Bonito (happy and beautiful game).
Then you have the Argentina, who are great team players, and are all buisness on the field, and will do ANYTHING to win (Maradona hand of god,1990 supposed water bottle incident and so on)even if it means making a rough tackle from behind or bending the rules of the game. But above all a team with great teamwork and passion as opposed to Brasil's individual greatness and technique.

To the Argentina people they are the only country who plays Brasil without fear and plays them the same way they play anybody else (meaning they don't change tactics just because it's Brasil, they play Brasil attacking just like they would any other team).
And to Brasilians,We know that when Argentina plays us that we are in for a battle because in there mind they should be # 1 and in a way are envious of Brasil's status in the football world.
And also the bottom line is when you look at talent Argentina is the closest one to Brasil, add that 2 being neighbors in south america, and thats why the Rivarly is so intense.

Well, I agree with your post, but an Argentine friend of mine tells me they change the way they play when it's against Brazil. "You don't have to change. You are Brazil! But we are not. So we change in order to try to win", he wrote me when they won in the SA/Qualifiers in Baires. :)

He's a great pal and we respect each other. So he does not have to lie to please me.

Anyway, I think we should change sometimes.

Argentina is a great country with a soulful culture rich in tradition. I really respect them.

I don't notice any changes they make at all,and I watch a good amount of there games, they play with a 3-4-1-2 and can easily transform it to a 5-2-1-2 with Zanetti and Sorin dropping back to right and left back positions. And without a question they try to attack us (of course with caution to not leave spaces, play with 3 defenders helps). Anyway, you get the point.

This rivalry exists in football and would normally end there.
The problem is that people tend to believe what the media tells them. And the brazilian media says that we have to hate argentina. So most people do without ever knowing a person from that country.

You're right. Just let me add that by "media" we should understand Rede Globo and, by "Rede Globo", we should understand Galvão Bueno. ;)
