Brazil_1500, if you don't mind I would like to transform this into the official Brazil x France friendly dicussion thread, so I've edited the title. Thanks for the initiative. From my part I would like that Parreira and the players take this game seriously. It's just a friendly, I know, but it's also undeniable the growing rivalry between Brazil and France national teams, and another loss to the French will give amunition to some of the Brazil detractors that France may be better than us, which we all know is very far from true.
Seems to me that this game should be between Brazil and Germany, the two most successful teams this last century.
Due to France's big role in the origin of FIFA (not to mention their current standing as one of the very top teams in the world- a bit better than England or Germany) it seems appropriate that this match would pit Brazil vs. France.
Brazil remain the undisputed masters of the world game. In 46 years since their first World Cup triumph, they have gone on to win four more editions of the quadriennial event-- a staggering achievement by any stretch of the imagination. France, with their methodical and scientific approach to youth development, lay claim to being a European version of Brazil. In the past, some have conferred that sort of status to the likes of Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, or even the former Yugoslavia, but I think that France are more deserving of the honor because their recent successes on the international front has given them invaluable self-belief when facing tricky opponents.
When will Brazil announce their squad for this match? I hope to see Edu get another run, especially against all his buddies on the French team.
It amazes me how someone who resides in Sweden, one of the most tolerant societies in the world, can be so crass and crude. Your country lacks a true goalscoring threat apart from that popular Glasgow Celtic striker of Cape Verdian heritage! Good luck at Euro 2004!
Well there is Zlatan Ibrahimovic upfront, and yes Henrik Larsson is Cap Verdian but has a Swedish mother. And France use players that are born outside the country+close generation of immigrants.
Zlatan may have born in Sweden but he is not a serial goalscorer like someone like, say, Thierry Henry or David Trezeguet. I cannot believe that Juventus are rumored to be interested in enlisting his services. The overwhelming majority of the black or mixed race players in the national team were born in France. Notable exceptions include Marcel Desailly (Ghana), Patrick Vieira (Senegal), and Claude Makelele ( Democratic Republic of Congo). Lilian Thuram may not have been born in France proper, but the people of the island of Guadeloupe have been French citizens since 1946. He was born there in 1972. Sounds like you are just jealous of the attention that French footballers have been getting these last few years. Maybe you should have your government build a time-travel machine to go back in time and colonize parts of the Third World to improve the overall quality of Sweden's player pool.
Well thread drift is one thing but this is the Brazil forum so let's avoid talking about Sweden. As for the France issue, take it to World Rivalries. soji22 is correct, and in fact Guadeloupe is France proper, in the same way Alaska is the USA. So he was even not accurate enough, drop the nonsense pololo, it's a myth that's been debunked before.
Yep France have four players born outside the continent, isn't that too much? How many french natives are playing for the team? And about the time machine no way we wanna do that, can't you imagine how the people where treated by the european colonisers?
With the exception of Ghana, a former British colony, all the national team players born outside of France proper were born in places with a distinct historical, cultural, as well as a linguistic link to France. So it's not like we have anyone born in either, say, Singapore or Australia playing for us. As far as the inhumane treatment of Africans by Europeans comment is concerned, some of the ills faced by the Dark Continent today are self-induced. France as well as Portugal have a long history of seeking to alleviate the plight of the Third World masses. It's too bad that the world at large wishes to see us as arrogant, self-important snobs. Oh well, stereotypes die hard. I still think very highly of Sweden. It's a socialist country, people enjoy a fairly high standard of living, and the women are gorgeous. However, the comments you've made is something I would expect to come from an Eastern European. I always thought that you guys ranked among the most sophisticated, tolerant people on earth. If your country had at its disposal skilful, non-Nordic footballers who spoke your language and whose cultural and ideological imprints were unmistakably Swedish, you would have them play for your national team, would you not? At the end of the day, all football fans care about is success. And true football fans are known to embrace good footballers who bring their team success, race or ethnicity notwithstanding.
Hey im not against the french,i met many french and they are very nice with great sense of humour. I just think those players that you have should play for their native country but thats just me. You talk about the fans for success the players that you have think about success and money, thats why they play for France. Since they know that playing for France would mean success, playing in the world cup and stuffs. While their native country never reach that since they are poor and doesn't have the guarantee.
Brazil's call-up for the next four matches Parreira has called up 24 players for the next 4 games (2 friendlies plus June qualifiers). http://oglobo.globo.com/online/plantao/141990801.asp Luisão gets a call-up but no Bordon, Dedé or Mancini, while Kleberson, Belletti and Júnior are back. Way to go Parreira...
Re: Brazil's call-up for the next four matches That's amazing! Have Kléberson or Júnior been playing by the way? What about Gilberto Silva? He's suspended for the Argentina game with a 2nd yellow, and he isn't playing too good lately. Well...
