No way in hell I stop shopping at Aldi. Sorry for being a bad anti-Hauptman Fire fan.

I prefer to think that I'm doing my part by supporting hundreds of jobs in the beer, whiskey and pizza industries.

Ok, ok, maybe i'm wrong. Maybe boycotting of sponsors happens for much lesser reasons than sponsoring an event that discriminates against gay people all the time and I'm just out of touch with the world of slacktivism. I'm sure Dunkin' Donuts will add sponsoring MLS teams with fair owners to their list after reusable cups, fair trade coffee, and promoting a healthier diet.

Well yes, I'm being a bit of an asshole, but I don't see what's so unreasonable about what I'm saying. This is a crazy idea guys and it's a waste of time.

you're absolutely right. I just accidentally bought a blood diamond and gave $100 dollars to Fred Phelps just from thinking about boycotting Fire sponsors. Who knows what would happen if I actually boycotted even one of their sponsors?

I'm talking about your douchey "boycots are only appropriate for X level of issue, X to be defined by me because I'm so fvcking smart and cool" coupled with your "issues Y & Z are important therefore issue X is silly" false dichotomy.

I got sick of that shit on usenet in 1986.

Ok so go attempt this boycott then and if you even get so much as 1 social media reply by one of these sponsors that can be considered progress in this futile attempt to change anything I will buy you a 12 pack of your choice (Fineprint: $30 maximum value or 2 - 6 packs also acceptable)

I don't think you understand how or why a boycott works. Think of it as lateral communication, not vertical.

A boycott is to put consumer pressure on a private business to get them to stop a given action. If every Fire fan tweets to Hornitos Tequila that they are going to stop drinking their Tequila the expected response is that Hornitos will end their sponsorship of the Fire and so they can get their customers back. I'm saying they won't care and you won't be able to rally nearly enough people to make a difference. If their agave supplier (edit) was cutting down old growth Mexican jungles or demolishing Mayan cultural sites so they could plant their blue agave plants it would be a lot easier to build the kind of support necessary for a boycott to be anything but child's play. Why that's being a douche is beyond me, I'm just being realistic (or an asshole).

This is where you're mistaken. Getting the private business to act would be an ancillary benefit but not the primary goal.
