I've been asked to help spread the word about an upcoming Freedom event. The Washington Freedom is having a bowling event at 300 Shady Grove this Wednesday, June 3, from 6:30-9:00 PM. The event is open to the public. 300 Shady Grove is the name of the bowling alley; the address is 15720 Shady Grove Rd., Gaithersburg, MD 20877. For more information, visit this website: http://www.3hundred.com/events/?loc=300shadygrove. From the promotional material: Join Washington Freedom players Allie Long, Alex Singer and Joanna Lohman for a night of fun and excitement. They will be there signing autographs and taking pictures and mingling. Other Freedom players might make an appearance as well.
Wow, that's pretty cool; you guys are lucky. =-) Other teams should do events like this more often as well.
Is anyone in the area going to this? It sounds like it could be fun, but fighting rush hour traffic might be an issue for me.
Someone from the maillist said they were going - you might check with them. I'm still pretty iffy and would be coming from a very different direction, in any case.
I showed up for a couple of games along with Charbs and her brother. Ambience more than a little raucous, with music videos and sports coverage both at the same time. Players in attendance included Joanna Lohman (who came over and said hello), Alex Singer, Allie Long, Lisa De Vanna, Erin McLeod, Sonia Bompastor, and Parissa Eyorokon. Lots of staffers there as well. Didn't get much face time with the players, though I got a few autographs. Oh, if you want to beat some Freedom players at bowling, go up against Allie and Alex. They were playing some little kids and even with the gutter rails up weren't doing very well.
You missed the best game SCF! I got a 152 on the last game - probably never happen again though! I talked to Alex after the little kids left and I joked that I knew her and Allie were just trying to make the kids feel good about beating pro soccer players. They were running a contest between the youth players and they got rotate through so everyone got to play at least one frame with Allie and Alex. Even though there wasn't a lot of face time with the players I still had a good time and hope they do something similar again. As I was leaving they were starting a competition between players and staffers and asked if I wanted to join, but decided that I wanted to end with the 152 (plus wanted to get home before the weather got crazy - I was unsuccessful ) Also there were some Freedom W-league players there too for a bit and Becky Sauerbrunn arrived right before I left.
