So according to your description, Uruguay in the Copa America 2011, wasn`t a big team ...... Valdivia is "magic" and always completely unpredictable. He has saved Chile, lots of times.
a good second half agaisnt Uruguay is an exception to the rule. Go figure hs record of performances against Brazil, Argentina, Spain, and the really big boys..... I haven't been aroundforever and i'm too busy to do the research for you, so you tell me. you say he has saved Chile a bumch of times. I can think of the games he played against Uruguay, Bolivia, Peru and Colombia....did i miss any? and you know what these have in common? in all but 1, he came off the bench. as as starter he's almost never put together a good full 90 minutes for the Nt
That's a simple demagogy statement. Or in other words a very big "Red hering", the one you are using here as a fact statement. Show me at least one chilean player in all our history with a top performance against top teams. All you will ever find, is maybe one or two games or parts of a game. But no Chilean player has top performed regularly against top opposition. These are facts. With him around, lots of times we had our team struggling to play offensively and doing damage on the opponent. His general attitude always is seeking for the opponents goal zone (on the contrary, if you need to defend, there is no use of him, as he is very poor in this issue). He never will or has been the top scorer of the team, as most of the times, its his team mates the ones who end succesfully the opportunities he has given them with his unselfish work, as he always manages to put the team over his own, personal achievements. Yes man, you are missing lots of his games, but mainly you are missing the most important fact that our actual present National team has : .......... it has lost its "pocket compass" or "general recipee" of how to play, almost at the same time as he (Valdivia), was put out of the team. Foolish rant, my friend. Who cares, if he only plays at most 1 minute of each game, if in that minute he manages to win the game for us ?. If it were up to me, as nothing is coming from the coach (mule head Borghi) and it depends mainly on what the players can do for themselves, I gladly would put him in, for the last 10 minutes of each game. At least, we`ve had our team playing decently for those 10 minutes , and not the 90 or more minutes as how our NT, is playing right now .
That's pretty much why I said 'that night' [only] and referred to Valdivia's talent when he 'turns up' to play, which, as you've highlighted, is not as often as we'd all like. Having said all that, I still don't think that we have a consistently competitive player in the team. Even Vidal and Medel, who usually play at a high level for their clubs, do not replicate that same form when playing for Chile.
I'd say that with the very notable exception of the red card against Colombia, Medel has been by far the most consistent player on the NT for years.
Arturo Vidal has played over 40 games for Chile, and has been red carded what, 3 times? and two of them coincide with Borghi and the team playing like crap. No excuse for what he did today, but to argue as to not call him again is a bit excessive.
With Vidal, sometimes I think that success in Europe has gone to his head. It's great watching him play for Juventus, but I've come to hate watch him play for Chile.
