I hope I don't get booted out of this forum for this question, but I am a Canadian Ultimate Frisbee player appealing for help on soccer cleats. I've been happy with the fit and performance of my Joma cleats (the round studs, not blades; with 8 studs at the ball of the foot and 4 at the heel...sorry I don't know the style name), except that I've worn the studs down too short too quickly. In fact, if it weren't for this (and my dream of having an extra stud right below the shoe tip for extra forward cutting traction), I'd get another pair of Jomas. As my sister's living in London, I can take advantage of the plethora of styles available in the UK. (My options feel extremely limited over here). My only restriction is that my feet are small (a size 4/37 or 4.5/37.5) so I'm essentially limited to Junior models. I'm wary of semi-blindly selecting a pair off the internet, so I'm appealing to all of you for advice/suggestions/do's and don't's so I don't make a huge mistake. On looks alone, I've fallen in love with the Nike AZT III FG (jr) http://www.prodirectsoccer.com/cgi-bin/pds.pl?usr=3980307&page=chooser&so=&cat=4&brand=014&type= because I simply like how long the studs look. The gorgeous look of them doesn't hurt either. What would you recommend for a lightweight, well fitting (I have narrow feet) boot that has exceptional traction for cutting? I've been reading up on your forum and you've mentioned the Adidas F50s, the Adidas Copial Mundials, the Nike Vapours, etc... What do you honestly think about the AZT3's? Is it a waste of money for non-existent/overhyped "technology"? I'd appreciate any and all help. Thanks for your time and thanks for letting me ramble on like this. ps Ultimate is a sport that is all about cutting. Explosive lateral, forward, and backward movements. THANK YOU SO MUCH for letting me post, ramble, and for any and all suggestions. I hope to hear from you soon!
Honestly, all football boots are essentially designed to do the same thing, so it's more about finding a pair that are comfortable and fit well than anything else. That said, I have always found adidas Supernovas to be very good footwear - very comfortable and a good fit for narrow feet. It is a very popular model amongst referees, and it would seem WRT physical activity Ultimate Frisbee and refereeing are similar - in terms of the movement you mentioned, the importance of comfort, and the fact you don't have to worry about the 'feel' of kicking a ball. I'd recommend trying your nearest Athlete's Foot or other footwear specialist for a custom fitting. They don't have the best range of boots, but you can guarantee that what you get will be comfortable and well-fitted.
You may want to consider some boots designed for rugby or aussie football. Soccer boots will generally not have a spike/stud on the toe tip as that would, on occassion, interfere with getting your toe under the ball. For rugby and aussie football...it's all drop kicks and punts (will the notable exception of place kicks in rugby but that's one fella on the squad and they often wear soccer boots). Rugby/Aussie boots have very similar fitting characteristics to soccer boots and generally have longer studs...may be just what your looking for. I believe pricing may be comparable to soccer boots but I am not sure on that account. Cheers! Canada is a beautiful country.
Caesar are you Australian or do ya jus live there? Anyway back to my real point, you should try Diadora as theyre quite cheap they have blades and the blades are metal on some i do believe and do give you plenty of grip. When ya playing Frisbee is it all diving and stuff? Another question (this may sound so dumb) is how do you play a competitive game of frisbee? im assuming that's what you do but i'm confused.
sweet! it always feels good to open up the sport to others. dellci, when we play there is a lot of diving (laying out) and stuff . as for blades...personally, i like the rounded studs much better. i've been looking at rugby cleats as others have suggested, but unfortunately these are mostly metals. that's not allowed. i appreciate all the input! and caesar, thanks for posting that link.
Well if you want the ultimate grip you should probably get a set of boots with blades. Imo the only technology recently that has been an improvement. That said they are not THAT much better grip wise but are better for swivelling and turning especially. For running around they are not significantly grippier.
